guess ill have to take another video or two for you guys. im going to go grab my Z in a little bit, its gorgeous out. I have driven it every single day as my only car all summer... Friday i bought a POS 1984 325e as a toy/DD/winter beater, so I spent the weekend with that car and left the Z at the shop. ill see if i cant find a few moments to get some video from outside the car too maybe

after pulling a lot of 600cc bikes, tonight i decided to up it a notch. a buddy has a 08 gsxr750 with full exhaust, intake, and power commander... and not sure how much it makes a difference but hes a smaller guy, probably 140lb. we went out to pretty much the middle of nowhere at 1am and we did about 10 pulls total from various speeds.

i bit off a little more than i could chew with this bike. starting in 2nd gear was just forget about it... between the bikes power to weight and me not even being able to floor it and trying to fight wheel spin, it was just instant death. i wouldnt catch him from this side of the land speed record. We were on concrete and it was about 75 degrees out so i had good traction and down a little on power from the warm evening, so hooking up in 3rd was no problem. when we rolled out in 3rd, he would immediately knock me 2 cars, then start casually putting distance on me. somewhere around probably 120 it would even out and shortly after i would start trucking up on him... but i didnt make up the distance and pass until 160mph... although i did cruise by pretty steady cause i had some decent space to build speed on him once the bikes aero started to screw him. i guess time flies when youre having fun because i was super shocked to see that speed, i had not realized at all that we had been in the pull for so long. i dont think i have taken the car so deep into 5th before

starting in 4th was a lot more in my favor. if we hit it at like the exact same time, he was getting an instant 1.5 - 2 car on me and then just barely inching away, then we would be super close for a while, and i checked the speedo when i finally crept past and it was 140. so a lot better.. but really this car can only pull that bike on the top where the aero is fighting off his power to weight.

we are going to try again in a week or two, im going to swap on some fresher tires and do a little street tuning for some more boost, and we are going to try it on a cooler night. i think i can squeeze out another 50hp and make all the difference... i think that should get me in the realm of staying side by side for 3rd gear and then pulling off my FINISH HIM somewhere in 4th instead of taking it to friggin ludacris speed madness just for the sake of letting the aero take over and put the Z in the lead. One thing is for sure, its going to take a really sticky tire and at least 700rwhp to even bother with a late model liter bike.

I only have the stock water temp gauge which doesn't seem to ever move for me... But it's probably not the most instant reading. I'm sure it increases a little but not enough to bother the gauge.

My oil temps weren't really getting in the way. Probably a lot of airflow on the cooler from the constant speed.. Some runs were back to back but I don't think I saw over 230. I was coasting down rather than braking which helped... I had to because after the 3rd pull deep in 5th, my stock sport brakes were over it.

From datalogging with UpRev, the water temp gauge stays at 2 dots to the left of the center until it hits 106C. Then it moves to the right one dot and tends to move one dot every 5C after that.

Nothing of significance. I am still daily driving the car. I havent been doing as much cruising lately, last week was a solid week of rain here although the weather is currently gorgeous again. I am somewhere over 7000 miles on the setup now, no problems yet! I still wish I had the motivation to pull out the laptop and do a little more tuning and check higher boost on the dyno. I do let it hit 9-9.5 psi sometimes, i would be curious what it makes for power there because now 7.5-8 feels slow LOL... funny how that works with every 1 psi.

i am starting to get pretty desperate for new tires though. Trying to decide if I want to really order up the R888s right now or just wait until spring. I sort of fear spending the 800 or so and then having the put the car right into winter storage

once the car hits storage is when you will probably see me take the time to work on my thread some more lol. i havent had the drive that i thought i would to put every thing in here!

Phunk, I'm starting to see a few HR's running 51x whp and 42x tq on stock internals, do you think the VHR has similar limitations? How do you think the VHR would respond to a simple set of drop in forged pistons perhaps running stock compression and FI?

there is really only one way to determine the limits of the short block. i would like a little bit more, but if i dont get some stickier tires on it wont do me any good this side of 80mph. I honestly think that will stand for most people. I currently run the RE11s 305/30/19 and the poor things just do not stand a chance. Not many people are willing to run a more aggressive tire than that, so I think the 500-525rwhp range is probably a good target for people.

I would like to grab a nice set of 18x12 and put on some 335 drag radials or R888, but I am not a huge fan of spending big bucks on a custom wheel just to drag race on occasionally. If anyone knows of a cheap *** 18x12 I could use, let me know! With that type of tire setup, could probably handle a pretty significant jump in power.

I DO still want to turn up the boost on the dyno and see whats going on, I am starting to feel like perhaps 600rwhp wouldnt be all that big of a deal on this engine, especially for someone who doesnt constantly beat the snot out of the car.

For pistons, I plan to run a 10:1 piston, but i wouldnt leave the rods stock, they should be upgraded too. I think stock compression would work out, but its impossible to speculate where you will start losing stability in combustion without trying. i would hate to put in some stock CR pistons and find myself having issues running into knock just past 600rwhp, a number that i could have run on a stock engine. I think I will go down to 10:1, it shouldnt destroy the natural characteristics of the engine noticably and it makes me feel like i may get a bit more headroom. But who knows, this engine is really great... perhaps people will find stock CR allowing them to take power very far. I suppose the E85 I run may help with that?
