Thanks for putting up more pics of the snow performance install and for such a great build thread. Good luck with everything I hope you hit all your goals!

Awesome build, looking forward to seeing your wring all the potential out of the Stillen kit. With the on/off switch for the snow kit are you planning on having 2 tunes one for with chemical inter-cooling and one without?

Thats pretty much the only way to take advantage of meth kits safely. Meth will drop intake temps and allow more aggressive timing, without meth that extra timing would cause detonation/knock so 2 maps is the smart move. Ideally the meth kit would tell the ecu when it was disabled and the map switch would occur automatically, unfortunately there is no way for our ECU to integrate with a kit like this that I am aware of so the map switch has to be done manually via cruise control buttons.

I will talk to my tuner about the dual map..I don't drive my car like I stole it so if the kit stayed on all the time it's fine with me it will only spray when in boost and 95% of the time I am no in boost.

I go for the tune on Thursday

dont get me wrong you can use meth without another map, it would still help cool the intake charge and make more power, you would just make even more with aggressive timing.

Ok so a set back.. I went to have the water/meth tune done and we did a base line run before the new tune a/f looked good no knocking but hp on the top dropped off by 70hp

On a compression test 2 of the cylinders on the driver side were low we were thinking head gaskets ok hoping head gasket

So the motor is out of the car and taken apart looks like a piston ring was casing blow-by so I am forced to build the motor with a .020 over bore.

Going to drop the compression by 1 point to a 10.5-10 cr

Man I was not rdy for this good thing I have my zx10r as a back up

Down side I have to drop another 6k to have this done  good news is I will be sitting on a forged motor good for so serious power.

Ps : and yes the plan is to use the on/off switch to switch between tunes
One aggressive tune for water/meth and the other with out w/m.

That sux to hear man..
Who is building the motor?

edub370 03-23-2012 08:11 AM

That sucks. what do u think was the main cause for the blow by?

Nissan370 03-23-2012 08:19 AM

Not sure but the tune was spot on.
Could have been a defect or some thing not sure .

Every. Thing looked clean other then the piston rings so.

Je imports doing all the work great group of guys over there .

I have the worse luck with cars if god tuned my car I am sure it would brake once he gave me the keys :shakes head:

You may have had an oil burner to begin with.. Introducing FI could have exasperated the problem.

GL with the rebuild.. I look forward to your results.

Wow! Sorry to hear that man! Did you notice anything wrong prior to finding out you had bad rings?

Nissan370 03-23-2012 02:42 PM

i picked this car up from a subaru dealership jan of last year with 24k on the clock one owner before me no idea if the guy ran the car hard or not never had any problems with the car til now.

the only thing when i got the car was it had a spacer on driver side of the rear wheel and nothing on the other wheel and a slightly warped rear rotor
because i dont drive the car hard or much besides to work i did not notice this til months after.

i know adding more power to the mix will pull any problems to the top and i guess for me its bad piston rings
