I want a super car built my way for a fraction of the cost. That's why I am doing it

apology

bullitt5897 07-15-2010 08:46 PM

It's all good bro  trust me I ran many options through my head before I bought the Z :) I'd do it all over again in a heart beat :D

DIGItonium 07-15-2010 11:36 PM

Okay, so when am I going to see this VR38 plenum installed? I'm pretty eager since I plan to get this setup as well.

I'm pretty eager to see how the TBs and intake arms will fit, and crossing my fingers that with the plenum and engine cover in place the factory strut brace would still fit.

370z TT 07-16-2010 09:46 AM

Isn't 1000hp a bit much for a track car? I'm not trying to flame anyone but after 700 or 800hp it becomes kind of unusable because cornering would not be the same and straightways would be pure acceleration. Also what brakes are you going to be using? What size rubber are you gonna run in the rear to hook up? Is the traction control system going to be modified or is it going away all together.

RCZ 07-16-2010 10:23 AM

I think 1000hp is for show...then when he wants to actually use the car he will tune it down to 600hp or something actually usable... that being said...I am curious to know the answers to 370z_TT's questions as well.

What are you doing for cooling Bullitt? Going to need some SERIOUS cooling capabilities to keep oil temps in check...and I mean serious.

Also what are you doing for the diff? the Stock one is going to die with that much power, not to mention suck.

bullitt5897 07-16-2010 12:39 PM

I will talk to Sam and see how things are going with the install and what kind of time frame until Tuning begins. Hopefully I can get you guys pics of the Plenum soon enough.

Like I said in my earlier post once you get to those Hi HP numbers tracking the car is a whole different ball game. You approach corners totally different the best way to relate it is our cars versus a miata. A miata can be full throttle through a turn where we can not. Its the same concept except the acceleration is that much faster.

Brakes:
Currently I am running Alliance's 8piston 15" rotor, 6piston 14" rotor combo. I will be running this and testing the system out to see what its capabilities are.

Cooling Issues:
We are working with several manufacturers to address these potential issues and we are using every available option to keep this thing cool.

Differential:
Currently we are running the stock differential but will be replacing it with an aftermarket unit once track testing begins.

hope that answers your questions.

UPDATE:

Just got off the phone with Sam over at GTM. The motor was broken back down and all the parts including the oil pump got a new type of coating/treatment. Sam did some digging and found some issues within the VQ platform that could have lead to a failure in the long term. I want to say thank you to Sam for going the extra mile to make sure my parts will last a long time. Sam has spent a great deal of detail on this build and is really working himself to the bone trying to get the car ready for its magazine cover shoot! The Motor will be installed back in the car this week and the finalizing of the install should be finished by the end of next week hopefully. Then its on to tuning and getting this bad puppy on the road!!!

Again I want to thank Sam and his crew as they are working nights and weekends to get everyone taken care of. If you talk to Sam on the phone he may sound tired... well thats because he doesn't sleep! thats right this guy is pulling all nighters to make sure everyone's projects are to get done on time! So if you are waiting on parts or are waiting on your build to be finished just be PATIENT as Sam and his entire crew are working to the bone to deliver you the top quality parts and builds you expect. Sam and crew are NOT willing to let a product or build go out the door like other companies that will not live up to its goals.

Stay tuned for more updates...

you will get vids when I feel you dam deserve vids Lou!!!!

DIGItonium 07-20-2010 10:08 AM

Sweet! Amazing work! I'd like to see a sticky WIKI-like thread about the VQ37 platform, findings, etc... of course, I don't think Sam can do this alone haha.

I agree this would be great and would answer many peoples questions if they would take the time to read it. I am trying to help Sam as much as I possibly can from my side. I wish I could take several days maybe even a week or two and help with my build so he could get a break... Yeah, I think the findings in this thread will benefit our community for years to come. Sam is at the forefront of VQ technology and outside of the designer of the VQ37 I dont think anyone has as much knowledge or insight into this platform as Sam.

Can you just tell us if it fits or not?? I know the strut cant be tested with this setup until the engine is in the car.

FuszNissan 07-20-2010 11:18 AM

I will delete it later....It just made me think of mini me when he pulled out the spray bottle...lol

so is your Z the only 370z that is actually having the motor built and reinforced to withstand higher PSI?

bullitt5897 07-20-2010 12:40 PM

Yeppers you got that correct I am as of this moment the only Z with a built motor.

 Can't wait to see the finished product! :excited:

But this isn't going to end up as one of those big build projects where due to a turn of events, the owner/creator has to part with the car for cost savings? That would be a real downer... :(

You're gonna have so much fun when it's done lol. ah0le... :roflpuke2:

No offense, but I doubt that. If I've read about at least 1 instance of somebody having a "built motor" on a fairly obscure 370Z community, then there are bound to be at least a handful of other built engines out in the wild. It doesn't cost that much to swap forged internals into a V6. Somebody with pockets almost as deep as yours has almost certainly blown a VHR under boost, and has long since replaced it with a built version.

If what you're saying is true, call up every Z performance house and ask if anybody has ordered any forged pistons or rods for the 370Z yet.

I really admire the work GTM is doing on your car, but claims like I quoted above kind of make you look like an ***...

m4a1mustang 07-20-2010 01:27 PM

Well, he's the only built Z that's documented on the internet is what I think he really means.

And you know just as well as I do that nothing is real until it's been confirmed by the internet.

Exactly, :iagree:

The internetz is reality! If its not on the internet it never happened! Just ask Al Gore he invented it!:tiphat:

DIGItonium 07-20-2010 02:01 PM

Let's not rain on his parade. All that matter is that he has one awesome project, and kudos to him for what is a large investment that will help this community, future customers (for parts), builders, and tuners.

I already have plans with FsP (got the gauges so far). It's nowhere near as crazy as Mike's project, but it will simply involve a GTM Stage 1 kit AND (hopefully) a VR38 intake plenum (which is why I'm here)!!! It will become a reality once I get everything.

There is a built 370z flying around here in South Florida. I am about 97% sure it is built.

I remember seeing it when I finished installing the S/C on my 350z.

NYBladeZ 07-21-2010 12:45 PM

I know I've asked this before, but if you go with a stroker kit can you raise your redline running 12.5:1 compression? My mechanic has an e46 m3. He built the motor (no stroker or sleeves) and he's running 12.5:1 compression. He said anything higher then that will require race fuel and he has his redline LIMITED to 8500. Nissan saw it to fit the Z with a 9K tach, I've love to get it as close to that as I can on a built short or long block.

m4a1mustang 07-21-2010 12:47 PM

They also saw it to fit the car with a 180 mph speedo. It's all marketing.

NYBladeZ 07-21-2010 12:50 PM

I'm sure bullitt can get it there when all this is said and done. If an N/A inline 6 can do it I'm sure the vq37 can.
