The last time I tried asking to see if I can get HFC and a tune for it the answer is no. We have the carb kit and it's illegal in CA. That's the answer I got lol. So I don't get how can others have HFCs and still good for carb in CA.[/QUOTE]

They are not and they dont know what they are talking about. You have to have Cats to be carb legal. The cats are the emissions control. HFC are not legal. They have to absorb and reduce so much NOX, CO, CO2 etc. you can only changed the cbe part to meet emissions.

Back on track, what are you guys using for tuning? Is there anything open source i can use with win OS, full binary everything unlocked? My shop wants to do direct meth injection... but we need some open source. I dont mind paying for software if it allows my mechanic full access.

Most shops are using Uprev (www.uprev.com) for tuning purposes.

LateralG'z 07-29-2010 09:15 AM

Thats what I am using

So my brother tried to convince me that in Washington now all cars 09 and up do not require emissions!!!!

Side note: He just drove his new EVO X up from cali with test pipes.. But he had to admit my Z was faster hahah.. Time for pre mod kill!

Cheerleader? where do I get my pom poms?? Good luck with your car man. I was just saying if you want answers, talk to them directly. So hard?

It seems to be extremely difficult for Tom to pick up the phone and call Stillen. Josh is such a nice guy, so pleasant, I'm so confused. :icon14:

I also find it amusing that the guy who talks quite often to Stillen (RCZ) and has a good, personal rapport with them is the guy with the least issues. There is a moral here, I leave it to the 'Dear Reader' to figure it out.

Good luck everyone! Isn't Beta Testing fun?

m4a1mustang 07-29-2010 09:22 AM

I agree that Josh is a good guy and very helpful. Really, everyone @Stillen is very helpful and kind. Wether I support their products or not they are always willing to help me when I PM them about stuff. :)

No, it's my understanding that you need the correct back pressure when using an SC setup. When you significantly change the back pressure, you need to change the tune.

This is a hot topic on this forum. I personally don't agree that you need back pressure to run an SC on any car.

Now I know a turbo will create some of its own back pressure and that is why you can go to a 3 inch full exhaust, so does a SC create its own back pressure too like a turbo?

I have no idea why, but have read this in several other places besides here. I think I even remember some manufacturers recommending smaller exhaust setups when using SC. Could just be internet rumor, I'll see if I can find out any more info on this.

edit: A blurb about it here:
http://www.alpine-developments.com/d...l%20-%20V1.pdf

but I'm foinding just as much or more about how backpressure doesn't effect it. It's clear something is effecting his power output be it his exhaust, installation, or faulty hardware.

Nope, its mounted in front of the engine, and has absolutely no direct impact on backpressure.

Then because of this we need to stay at about 2.5 inch for our exhaust but I would think that a HFC will still provide some back pressure unlike testpipes?

Again, I don't believe ANY car with a supercharger installed needs backpressure to operate efficiently. You'll definitely want a 2.5" CBE, though.

Living in Cali is very easy to get caught now. I even heard CHP officers have a device to measure your cats temp lol. Last year I got pulled over for just having my CBE. Cop didn't even hear it whether its loud or not. He say my tips are too big then asked me to pop my hood. Luckily I was all stock at that time. But yeah, things got really strict here recently. Hopefully we get the CARB sticker asap!

so you can smoke dope but not have a carb legal CBE or HFC? Cali is getting backwards. So why do the motorcycles get to be so loud and not cars?

Forreals! It's legal to smoke weed legally and cannot legally have mods on cars.

Motorcycles and trucks are exempt.

On the november ballot (prop 19) in california there will be a vote to legalize pot for everyone over 21 for personal use. You are allowed up to one ounce, and grow your own in a space of up to 25 square feet. supposedly they are going to start to crack down on the motorcycles also

Yeah, it's crazy now! I live in SF and people are just blazing up everywhere hahaha.

Cali's car laws are insane. If they are so concerned, have the car pass or fail a sniffer test, none of this visual "maybe it looks too funny" bullshite law enforcment seems to use.

this from a guy derailing another thread talking about polictics and unempolment relating to hp cost. :stirthepot:

Chris_1 07-30-2010 03:23 PM

I just want to say that this kit is amazing. It truly is like the perfect kit, makes the car feel like a factory car with lots of power. It honestly idles, and drives better then when nissan sold it to us. Well done stillen, and again thank you RCZ for the ride. Man I am jealous.

LateralG'z 07-31-2010 10:30 AM

Anyone finishing up there kits with the new tune and dynoing?

xbigb4ller69z 08-01-2010 10:11 AM

Ok... so I've decided to go with the stillen s/c kit, F.I. resonated test pipes, F.I. 18" CB CBE. Everything should be up and running in about a month or so (due to F.I. wait time) I'll post pics and start a review soon...

Special thanks to RCZ for the help...

My car was supposed to be done before the weekend, but Stillen is also doing some suspension work for me and I'm suspecting Zcon put a dent in their schedule, too. So, it didn't get finished on time. Let's hope for early this week. :-)

It will be a new tune. And yes, I'll provide dyno sheets from Stillen's dyno.

Mine should be done early this week, all we have are fluids and gauges.
Are you tuning or using their new tune?

This is the nature of this engine with the factory ECU tuned. My Twin Turbo 370 feels like factory but with alot more power. I think the VQ37 is great for FI applications for sure, I am impressed with the amount of power these supercharges and TT kits are making. And not to mention the power band is very lineair, which makes it feel more like a N/A vehichle than a boosted one. Any idea when Stillen is going to come out with the other stages of this kit??

LateralG'z 08-01-2010 03:27 PM

It sounds like they will be offering the other stages soon after talking with them about the current pulley set-up
