DIY GTM Twin Turbo Stage 2 Install!!

Very impressive. I'd have two problems if I did that myself. 1) I would get impatient and starting trying to get it done faster. This would lead to disaster. 2) I wouldn't know how to properly troubleshoot any turbo issues once I was done. Having no one in Chicago that I could trust to fix it, which would lead to further disaster.

Yea I woudlnt be too excited about having to drill and tap my heads.... I dont like that AT ALL .... everything else is cheap to replace IE the oil pan... and you cant really mess up the taps in the plenum.... I dont think I will go with the GTM Kit later because of that.... Im not feeling paying 3k for the install then another 1k for shipping the car there and back... I dunno... murphys law seems to follow me... If the heads can be cracked or compromised in some way it would happen to me..... I hope the greddy kit doesnt require drilling and tapping the heads....

Over a year ago we discovered that Nissan for no real apparent reason that we can see introduce a new cylinder Head casting, So we went ahead and made a new set of tooling and casted and a new turbo manifold for that reason for one side only . to make things a little easier.

Really guys? tapping aluminum is not a big deal. I do not recommend using taps from Harbor frieght Tools for something like this. A high quality tap will cut much cleaner threads and make the job easier. You may have to spend 10 bucks per tap but its worth it. The best place to get good taps or high quality machine toos is here: McMaster-Carr I used to buy all of my hardware, drill bits, taps, and mill bits from them.


My opinion of the self install is that you will gain an intimate understanding of how this system works when installing it yourself and if a leak or issue arises you at least know what your doing to resolve it yourself. At least here you dont have to fabricate anything.

In hobby projects that I typically do I have to design and fabricate my own parts using machine shop tools. From what I see this isnt too bad and to save a few grand on install labor. I am there!! I also want the install DVD video GTM is making.

I do have a question for Modme: How come you didnt install an oil cooler?

Jason did a real good job on his DYI, especially for someone doing this in his own house on his back. I remember calling him every couple days to check on him sense i have not heard from him and he kept saying I'm just following the instruction... so far so good .

We took a lot of time making the instruction with a lot of detailed info and pics so Jason doing this him self was the ultimate test for our product and instruction combined

I have been following your thread on the supercharger for the 370 but I am most likely going to go this route and do what Jason did.

Totally go for it. When you are doing a spirited run, knowing that you made it all happen, makes it 100x more fun. And when something does go wrong, you know exactly how to fix the problem.

Oil cooler is something that I will look into. I dont track my car or anything and oil temp has not been an issue for me.

It was fine. As long as you tighten the bolt as much as you can, it will seal. No oil leaks.

Sam, Are you saying there is no need for drilling and tapping the head now? Im just trying to understand why the manifold wouldnt line up on the existing header bolts to begin with?

The manifolds always lined up, that was not the problem, Nissan changed the casting of the heads . so you could not install the stud sense there was no pretapped hole there .

And yes there is no need for drilling and tapping the head now

modme do you have an update on how the car is running???? I would love some final pics and vids! It does not look like you have an probs with posting media some vids would rock for sure. There are not many vids of this kit. I am sure you would get rep points out the butt for that. Thanks for everything else thoguh!
