This isn't a turbo where you are just bleeding off the excess wasted combustion anyways, you are making the engine work harder by spinning the supercharger at a certain rpm producing a specific CFM, by bleeding off the excess you are essentially wasting "work", also position of the wastegate/bypass valve matters as well, hopefully it's pre-intercooler.

Yes that has always been my thought process, it does make 10lbs of boost by about 4k rpm whereas a 10psi pulley would only be making about 5.5psi at same rpm. So you’d end with same peak power but the current pulley setup will make way more power across the entire powerband.

Typically a general rule is 1psi add 6.7% more power but takes about 1.7% power away to create that psi with a supercharger. Generating 20+psi but only using 10psi isn’t very efficient but the supercharger spinning lets say 50k rpm with zero back pressure or in this case 10psi, is a lot easier than doing it against 20+ psi of back pressure so it’s not quite as inefficient as it initially seems, but still could be better optimized.

I always thought a 16psi pulley would be a good middle ground in still being able to hit about 10-11psi by 5500rpm and then flatline it only bleeding about 5psi at redline vs 13psi or so now.

I am already tuned so if I do retune it might be because of a built block and then I’ll be making max boost anyways. But who even knows timeline on if/when ecutek is following suit to COBB.

What wastegate are you using and where did you mount it? There's not much room in there!

I don't have the specs on the wastegate with me but it is a Tial.

Thanks. I just got mine tuned @ Dynosty. I'm very happy w/ the power :happydance:, but I'm definitely having the periodic power cut due to the safety factors in the tune, which Hal warned me might happen. The tune was just yesterday, so they've not yet had a chance to address it.

I gave the Ecutek Boost Control it's fair shake. In the end it seemed like it should work in theory but didn't really work that great in practice. Got a lot of safety cuts for overboost/boost spike on hard pulls. Since the WG installed I've had no boost spikes or safety cuts. It seems like a solid addition to the TopGunz Kit.

All I have so far is a pic of the printout they gave me. HP & TQ scales are not the same, so graph looks a bit odd. This is on 93 octane. 603 / 494.

Nice. Finally getting mine on a dyno next Saturday.

I don't yet have a graph that shows boost and afr, but i believe he said 16ish psi w afr starting in 12s and dropping into 11s.

I'm waiting on my sc kit, should be any week now... looking to run a similar setup as yours, I already have the cjm fuel system. Still need to order injectors and fuel pump. What pump are you running? Nice numbers btw, was expecting e85 would be needed to break 600.

TopgunZ 04-23-2022 04:17 AM

Does anyone have a graph of a filtered vortech, or non filtered, on pump making 16psi and having a better power band? Bringing the boost in earlier gives you more power under the curve.

Right on! Could you send me a tracking number? I'll probably leave work when it gets here, don't want that sitting outside... thanks

My fuel system is: Walbro 450, Deatschwerks wiring upgrade, CJM top hat, CJM fuel rails, ID1300

I have nearly identical fuel system but I’m using Ethanol fuel. Most of the time it’s registering around E-80.

I only come to this forum to check this very thread to see what this kit does on pump gas. I thought by now this thing would be over flowing with people's results.

Been driving mine and fine tuning things since September last year. Going on dyno for some pulls next Saturday.

Where you headed for that? There’s not many VQ tuning shops in DFW unfortunately.

KarlKFI 04-25-2022 06:53 PM

Any word on CA legality?

Are you planning to submit for CARB exemption?

A guy in Celina that has a shop. He focuses on Subaru but wrenches on pretty much anything and does general mechanic work. Not expecting any tuning from him just use of dyno for pulls. Ivan’s Performance Shop.

TopgunZ - any plans to make available a recirculating BPV kit similar to what Soho did for those who either don't like the BOV noise or just like to fly under the radar?

Here you go. This happened a couple days ago. 93 pump...600whp/500wtq just touching 16psi.

They did that because that design makes the notorious "flutter" or choppy bov That is inherent to all vortech air to air kits.

There might be some customers that just want a quieter car also I guess.

It would be extremely easy to do on these. Just weld a 1.5" long , 1.5" long pipe on the side of the intake and run a 1.5" heater hose to it from the bov. However, you would want to run that wastegated option also or reduce your pulley size to run say 16psi.

Does anyone care to guess how high I can go (in terms of whp) with just 1050cc injectors as that's what my tuner has included in my setup (installation expected to begin in a week or so). The aim is around 525 whp for me. Fingers crossed that 1050cc will do the trick.

I notice the invoice mentioning "CJ Motorsports S1.E Fuel system" but that in itself doesn't really tell which pump is included in my setup, I guess. I better ask the shop/tuner...

I'm suppose something like a Walbro 400 is needed in combination with the 1050cc in order to reach 525 whp?

The S1.E is the return fuel system set up. A good pump to use would be the Walbro 450. I got into the 600's with 1050's and a single Walbro 450. For your needs, that combo would be perfect

Got my kit yesterday, very well packaged. Can't wait to install it! Still need to order injectors, fuel pump, oil cooler, upgraded clutch... so it's gonna be a while.

What do you guys recommend for clutch? Car has 35k miles on it so I'm assuming it's stock. Plan on being around 600hp. Are there any cons to a 6 puck? Looking for something with good drive ability as it's my daily. I plan on doing the csc delete while I'm in there.

Go with something full faced if you want to keep drivability, zspeed has a single disk full faced clutch that is rated to around 500wtq if I recall right, it's the one I use and has been flawless, beyond that I believe there's a twin disk option that's rated for even more. I'd avoid a 6/3 puck at all costs.

That's the one I've been looking at, stage 3 super street rated at 512 rwtq. Thanks for the info, this is the first manual car I've modified so I'm definitely learning. I'll get that ordered tomorrow so I can get it broke in before the sc kit goes on.
