With the turbos mounted low - the oil return line from the turbo to the oil pan doesn't have enough downward angle to allow gravity to do it's thing - thusly, the oil backs up into the turbo and then produces that smoke as it exits the engine via the exhaust.
Turbos mounted higher than the oil pan return don't have this problem.
That's why Sasha did the Exa pump setup with the initial BP kits. All it takes to appreciate what that thing does is to run the car with the wiring from the Exapump jacked up. You have a whole new appreciation after flushing oil from your intercooler then having to drive around with a smoke stack till the oil burns out of your exhaust.
