The price of their clutch/flywheel setup is pretty appealing. I got: Z1 Full Face clutch and flywheel combo Redline MT-85 Motul DOT4 GTR Spark Plugs Z1 Hoodie Looking forward to feeling my tires slip instead of the clutch! |
What spark plugs were you running if you just bought the GTR plugs?
|
My kit has arrived! WOOOOOP!
You'll be happy with the Z1 clutch.
I didn't see it in your list but you need either the ZSpeed HD CSC or the Z1 elimination kit. Don't waste the labor money by not ditching the OEM CSC cuz it WILL fail on you. |

One more thing! Jason from Gamma sent me a little package with all the parts that were missing from the kit. I got the abrasion resistant power steering lines, and spacers/hardware for mounting the crash bar properly. Appreciate that! I have to give a shout out to Gamma for setting up such excellent tech support with Jason. Could not have finished the install without him.

Hah! I'm just sneaky.....
and for the record, I've done rear diff bushings on my Z and a buddy's HR 350z. Not bad if you have the right process... it involves a sawzall, a drill, some rented hand tools from your friendly neighborhood auto parts store, and some hardware... Followed the DIY on here and it worked out ok. If you're gonna farm out the clutch install, might as well pay for the diff too tho I guess. In my opinion, after you've installed this kit, everything else is pretty simple... yeah, and +1 for Jason at Gamma. Jayhovah told me about him and since we've been in contact, Jason's been really helpful... |

I seriously question Gamma's decision sending any turnkey kit out without including a cooler plug. Nice score on the CSC! |
Great thread. I'm so jealous of you guys that can do these kinds of builds.
 Congrats on your build:tup: |

Got my clutch and flywheel installed! Feel great! I need to adjust the pedal a little bit as the engagement feels a bit low to me, but all in all everything seems good. I paid the mechanic and extra hour to check over the installation and he also said we did a great job so I was happy with that. The only thing he didn't like is a hose that Gamma cut a little too long so it's kind of pushed up against the chassis. We felt the same way, but after we got it on we couldn't get it back off (the mechanic likened it to a chinese finger trap) and it wasn't bad enough that we felt the need to cut it off. It has a heat wrapping around it, so if rubbing becomes and issue I should notice during maintenance. |
Nice, get that rear differential bushing replaced and then you are good to go beat up on those guys that think they are fast....they are but you be really fast! lol

The mechanic called and asked if he could take it around the block to check out the clutch feel. When I went to pick it up he said "Holy hell. That thing GOES." |
Did you not follow the clutch breakin instructions? You need at least 3-500 easy miles on that thing before getting on it.

I'd try to avoid hard acceleration too. |

Just get on a loop freeway on cruise control and burn threw a tank of gas. |
That must suck so bad!! All that power and can't use it. Unkle Ben was right in your case, "WITH GREAT POWERADE COMES GREAT RESPONSIBILITY."

Yup. Needs stop and go city driving for a few hundred miles. All about those engagements!
|
I went to adjust the pedal last night and it looks like the height of the cruise switch is already maxed out (mechanic must have adjusted it). I contemplated allowing additional travel forward by backing out the clutch switch, but the lock nut is so tight the bracket wants to bend when I try to loosen it - though there isn't much more than 1/2" to be gained there anyway.
Right now the end of the clutch engagement window is about 1/2" off the full forward travel, so it works fine, just feels way low compared to stock and if I am not paying attention I send out the "MT Noob Alert" to the cars around me in the form of a gear grind. I will get used to it, I think.. I also assume as the clutch breaks in and the fingers loosen up, the engagement will require slightly less pressure so the window should rise up just a little bit (less expansion on the lines, etc.. ) Does that sound right to you guys? jwick - were you able to use the stainless clutch line that comes with the Z1 kit? My mechanic couldn't figure a place for it to go (had a banjo end... no banjo connections to be found). Probably should have ordered the zspeed SS line. |

I'll be honest I don't think the engagement window or pedal pressure has changed any from when it was first installed. |
I vote RJM Clutch Pedal next!

Sounds like the best would be to go poop in Texas in Winter then come back and hang here in the summer.
Wait...was the poop talk in a different thread? |

You can still beat the piss out of it when its boosted too and it makes it that much more fun. Just need a good tune.
|
Well see. I agree it would be fun. I might throw a supercharger on it in a year or two. less maintenance fewer things to go sideways on a guy.
