My kit has arrived! WOOOOOP!

First:
Please keep this thread under control, I am just excited about my parts and just want to geek out about the whole thing. Keep the bash fest to a minimum... Ppppppllease? =) :driving:

Now - My gamma V3 kit showed up!!!!! I was on the GTM group buy cluster and Gamma honored the deposit i flushed into the GTM toilet.

Had the kit shipped to my brother-in-law in Texas as he has more mechanical skills and also has a lift in his garage. Driving over there exactly one month from today to start the install! I am beyond pumped! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOST!

Here are some pics he sent me as he started unboxing. He's going to inventory all the parts tomorrow.

Congratulations Jayhovah! I got my GM V3 TT kit dilivered as well, I wish you the best on your journey to BOOST!!!

GrooveStyle 11-18-2015 11:06 PM

Congrats! Glad you got it! My kit is supposed to be in the mail as of yesterday. Pretty excited. What are you guys tuning on? I went the ECUtek route. It'll be really nice to have a couple of us to bounce build ideas off of...

Speaking of which, due to the tight clearances, I'm tempted to get the Z1 Urethane motor mounts at some point. Reduce risk of putting additional pressure on the turbos/manifolds due to movement of the motor under load. Thoughts? Not usually top on the list of turbo build upgrades, but seems like it might be important.

YzGyz 11-18-2015 11:23 PM

Omg!! Probably my first and only post since it's from that company. But, I'm really excited with what this thing can do. I mean r&d and blah blah for years now. Hope it's a killer kit that's easy to install and great outcome. Post every little detail good and bad. Lots of people are curious and following. I know I am.

I got the turn-key kit so I'm unfortunately stuck with Uprev for now. Since I am driving to TX to do the install over the holiday, I'll only have about 11 days to get the project done start to finish... to start out I just want to get it installed the way it was intended.

Once I get the kit up and running I'll consider a switch though. Seems like folks are getting a lot out of the ecutek solution. Perhaps I'll get one of those fancy e-tunes, should get to see how that works out for other TT people by the time I am ready to switch. As of now there aren't any ecutek tuners in my area. There are a couple in Miami - one of which seems to be known in the GTR community, but not necessarily with the Z.

I'm also excited to see a few of us getting this kit! Glad to have a little "community" for support in addition to all the smart FI guys on this board.

tiller 11-19-2015 08:22 PM

Congrats, good to see you got your kit

Chuck33079 11-19-2015 08:41 PM

There's an ecutek tuner in Houston. Not sure where in tx you're doing the work, but JTran will take care of you if you want to make the switch.

Thats......not a bad idea! The only worry is that I'll only have 11 days start to finish.. if we finish in time and they can somehow fit me in, I may very well do that!

1cleanZ 11-20-2015 06:49 AM

Happy to see it worked out for you and they honored your deposit.

tonythetiger 11-21-2015 09:34 AM

how much was the group by for??

harbin9er 11-21-2015 08:33 PM

congrats! I am waiting on the G37 version of the same kit :)

Where in TX are you putting this together? There's more than a few of us who would come up to help and drink beer if it's local.

Houston! I've got a couple of folks already on board to help, but if we begin to struggle I would gladly accept the offer! Even if things go smoothly, it would be awesome to meet any of you guys for a beer.

If Houston there are plenty of us, post up details on when you will be here and building.
Many hands to help or just sit & talk cars.

Awesome. I should be arriving on the evening of 12/18.. tear down should start that night! My brother in law and I plan to put in 10-14 hours each subsequent day until finished. I am hoping to be boosted and on my way out of town by 12/29 at the latest.

Keep your fingers crossed for me to have a smoooooooooth install.

jwick 11-23-2015 07:26 PM

That should be plenty of time. Mine, although a different kit, only took four days.

theDreamer 11-24-2015 08:39 AM

Dropping the motor?
Also, my only concern is the tune, while GTM/Gamma out of the box tunes can get you around you will really want a full custom tune. I am not sure with the holidays and such a tight schedule but you may want to try to get a slot in at Jtran or Kozmic for a full custom tune when the kit is done.

Motor is staying in... The kit instructions are written for leaving the motor in. If I finish up early enough I likely will try to get in at Jtran to get the tune checked out / touched up but as you said, the holidays are right int he way.

In the event I am not able to get a custom tune done - I should at least be able to tell from the datalogs that I am not way off, right? Also the datalogs get sent off to gamma to be checked as well.

Yes, the data logs and back & forth will help dial it in, also the tune they send will most likely be locked and not editable by a shop. Even if it is not typically they will start from a base tune they have instead of working backwards on someone else tune.

I recommend taking it to JTran. Nothing against Kozmic, he definitely knows his ****, but he doesn't tune Ecutek. Ecutek is the way to go.

Yeah I need to talk to him here soon about that.
Since I want to go e85 and upgrading a few items when the SC comes back I would like to migrate over to Ecutek but he is strictly Uprev still.

I'm making the E85 jump too just not sure when. I guess when I feel comfortable dropping another $1800-2000 on the car.

Agreed, and I ultimately want Ecutek. If the Uprev tune is OK - I may just wait. I had originally ordered the Ecutek version of the kit, but Gamma doesn't have it ready yet... I am hoping they will help me out with a switch like they offered to GrooveStyle. When I spoke to Amin about it I just remember him saying "We can talk about it when we have the Ecutek solution" or something like that. So far he has been great to work with, so I am not terribly worried.

One thing... now that Sam is out of the picture at Gamma I am not sure who would be doing the tune and what their track record is - so that is a question mark.

In what neighborhood is the price tag for Ecutek + custom tune?

I'm going to guess between $600-800.

Is that an educated guess? Or an arbitrary one? That seems very reasonable to me...

Somewhat educated. I know what their Uprev tunes cost as I have one and I added a little pad because from my research Ecutek is slight higher.

Chuck33079 11-24-2015 09:26 AM

The canned tune for my kit was a hot mess. They were basically unresponsive to fixing it. Just plan to get it tuned before you leave town, even if it's just an uprev tune. You'll be much happier.

Well - that's pretty definitive =)
I'll hope for the best and plan for the worst. The "they" in this particular case has changed so that will feed into the hope. =)

Can tunes are always trash man. They just limp you along. Custom tune is night and day.

Call JTran and see if they can work you in. It only takes Johnny about three hours to tune you from scratch.

Right on.. if I can switch to Ecutek too I think it's a no-brainer.

Edit: I read it wrong, but yeah I agree with everyone else on a dyno tune instead of a canned tune.

Jayhovah 12-02-2015 02:49 PM

Since YzGyz is sooooooo impatient.. I'll share whatever I can as an update... =)

After reading through the manual 3 times, I sent Gamma 17 questions about it (some just general, some pointing out some obscurities, and some pointing out inconsistencies or mistakes in the manual). This did not surprise me, as it was version 1 of the manual and hopefully the first group of us going through this can help them refine the instructions... I sent the questions in on Thursday last week, but haven't gotten any answers yet. In some email exchanges today, Amin told me their techsupport folks are still catching up from the holidays.. Also understandable.

More on the email exchanges:
I linked up with GrooveStyle who is also doing his V3 install on a similar timeline and found out Gamma is working on an Ecutek tune for the kit and is swapping his Uprev out.. So naturally I contact them to see if I can do the same. I am waiting for confirmation that the canned tune will at least be ready by the time I have to drive the car home, but he already told me they are willing to swap it out even though Ecutek is more expensive. Should save me a few bucks in having to buy the Ecutek product at the very least. So far, I am pretty pleased with the interaction and service I am getting from Gamma.

Also.. I bought a boost gauge and test pipes. I am super excited! Can't wait for BOOOOOOST.

bullitt5897 12-02-2015 03:43 PM

Just as an FYI... The guys running GTM are not technical car guys... I.e. They will have to ask Sam or a previous employee about the kit in order to answer your questions... I have stripped my kit twice and put it back together. My recommendation would be for you to post up your questions here and let us get you an answer... Most likely we will be able to answer it faster than gamma...
