Project White Dragon Lives! 450zTT 850+ RWHP on 93oct "Dyno Broke"
Many of you have heard of the Mythical Build, but not many have seen it in person. The car has been in and out of shops for the last several years. In early February I got the car back on a truck in a running condition. Granted it still had a lot to sort out including an exhaust leak. Long story short, with the help of a friend (Kyle Klessig of Z1) I was able to pull the kit down inspect and inspect everything without dropping the motor...
http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...pswpamq8b4.jpg I can definitively say "One can definitely install the GTM kit with the engine in and on jack stands... Not I deal but doable..." What we found was the typical turbo manifold exhaust leak that most have seen... Luckily I have a friend who was able to get me a spare set over night "Granted used but in excellent condition!". With the kit pulled down and the new manifold in a few days later we had scheduled a second day to put the car back together... But before we proceeded I took a look at the turbo and the manifold and because the manifolds are tradition T25 and I am running the T25+ (performance similar to a T3) housed custom GT3582R turbo I noticed some restrictions in my turbo manifolds... So, with a skilled hand I grabbed my dremel and a grinding bit and put in a few hours of shaping and material removal to induce better flow. Pic for comparison: http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...psfwzqsk9k.jpg This mod should increase peak horsepower and allow for a slightly better spooling turbo. So after getting the car put back together on one sunday afternoon I scheduled time to drive the car down to Z1 for some special treatment from Kyle and Jon! We noticed the Bank1 was constantly running lean even after reinstalling everything and the car had a hard time idling... well after further inspection at Z1 and with the Boost leak tester we found out that one of the ID2000 injector's o-rings was torn and allowing air into the cylinder. Pulling the custom fuel rail was a PITA! and we had to grind down a corner of the rear VVEL bracket if I remember correctly to allow the injector to sit in correctly and not bind. Once the injector was in it was back to wrapping up the car and prepping for the dyno! So let me take a pause here... Several years ago Jon Parham and I had a brief conversation that ended in a (prophetic) promise... that promise: "Jon, upon the cars return to Atlanta I will break your dyno hahaha! That is a promise!":stirthepot: Fast Forward back to last Saturday night: The car is idling like a stock 370z despite having been milled to a full 4.5L monster! We pulled the car up on the dyno (on an OsGiken Triple plate Race clutch) *note: we were taking bets on who would stall it out the most... not a sit in traffic clutch HAHAHA!* We strapped the car down on the dyno, hooked up the wide band and prepped for our first couple of runs... Once the car was ready Jon wanted to run the car a few times to get the car up to temp and to get a feel for what it was doing and what was going on to the current tune. Sadly I did not get video of these runs but was able to capture our last run! Jon did not even get a full session in before the Dyno broke!!! Here is a video of our last run before shutting everything down: http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...psgzwondzz.mp4 The car hit 700rwhp on 93 oct by 6300rpm and was continuing to climb past 800rwhp when the dyno crapped out due to a speed sensor. This is without Jon making any changes to the tune which is not complete. Once the dyno is up and back in order we will do more videos for everyone. Old Dyno: http://i313.photobucket.com/albums/l...Dyno886whp.jpg Special Thanks to my sponsors: Zele Japan APR Racing Strasse Forged Recaro Toyo tires SPC suspension & GTM A Very Special thanks to the following people who have helped me get this car finished: Matt @ GTM for putting in unpaid hours to get my car running and home to me! And for the random support calls! Kyle Klessig for taking his days off of work with Z1 to come help me put the car back together! Jon Parham @ Z1 for staying late on saturday and for letting me break his dyno hehehehe |
Good to see the car running !

Needs more power.

My favorite response so far from my friends...

Nice work breaking the dyno

So are there goals set for this or more of a go big or go home?
I see you are on 93 but thinking of e85 tune also or a 100+ tune (blend maybe)? |
You should also post up a video of what a 1000 hp burnout looks like.
|
Yes we will try e85 and race gas
|
congrats my friend!!! can wait to see the final numbers:stirthepot:

Bullit, any way your heading to zdayz this year? I would love to see the car in person and eyeball that beautiful GTR manifold.:yum:
|
yes we are.
|
:eek2: Congrats on the amazing build!
|
Nice to see this breathing.. I know it has been long road for you with this. Congrats dyno breaker!!
|
And here I thought my stock z is fast, this car has 4x the hp! :bowrofl:
I wonder how it's like having that much power under one foot. Must be feeling pretty awesome. Care to share how much had been invested in this build? |
DAMN. Nice.
|
The only thing I can relate this too is a big turbo supra... The boost throws you in the seat and pins you there from 4500 to 8k rpm... And it is mind numbingly fast! Way too fast for the road! You cannot make a full 4th gear pull with out having several football fields of clear freeway ahead of you! I tried with 200 yards free and was on traffic by 6000 rpm soo fast I was like ***** use your brakes!!!!
You can do 6th gear pulls on pretty much anything and walk it... Including 500hp vehicles... It's fun but you have to respect the power from 4500 to 5500 you gain over 200rwhp in 1k rpm!!!! |

How many pounds of boost were you running in that video by the way? I curious lol:stirthepot:
|
22-24lbs
|
That's impressive! It's a monster for sure lol
|
Glad to see the monster up and running. It's been along time for you getting this far. All that past sweat is paying off now. Good luck with the rest of it.
|
Dude both of your Z's are sweet? Which one did your wife drive to the car meet?
|
Nice to hear she's back up running!
|
The wife drives the nismo
|
Wow -- looking forward to final numbers.
Just wondering, do you need a custom hood to fit over the IM? |
holy crap dude, it lives! I can only say you must feel pretty good after such a long build, I was following this thing before I even had a Z a few years ago!!
congrats and enjoy, will be great to see final numbers :) |
just beautiful bro!

All I can say is WOW and congrats.. On another note I did noticed the same thing on my gtm exhaust manifolds and ported mine out to the correct size sometime last year.. Yes it will make a big difference in the flow.. My drivers side exhaust manifold is cracked and now I'm forcd to just have it rewelded since I can no longer find another gtm manifold. I recently tried purchasing one through vivid racing to come from gtm but again they failed to come through after 6 weeks..
|
I thought the GTR manifold was not possible. How do you get one of them to fit?
|
They're talking about gtm... Not gtr.
Sweet build! |
In order for the GTR manifold to work on our motor you will have to use GTM's GTR conversion.
Mike |
Awesome car!
Do you have a link for info on the motor build? |
