Air deflector... Is it needed or not????

Question is if these serve a purpose once you go to an aftermarket intake Gen III for me. It makes the filter area pretty cramped. Has anyone taken these off

Has anyone taken these off of the front bumper? Any issues you have had?

IIRC those deflectors have more to do with forcing air into the radiator than into the intake pipes.

Yes it's just a Nismo thing. When I installed my Gen 3's I just drilled out the rivets and threw the deflectors in the scrap pile. I've had no problems with them removed.

Maybe you shouldn't though. Do nismos have this problem too....

Every used Gen 3 I've seen for sale has a solid black line along the filters. It's on the exact back side facing the radiator. its about and inch thick. My custom cai has it too. It tells me that's where all the air is coming from and into the filters.

If you left those there it looks like they will keep massive amounts of dirt, bugs, etc off the filters. K&N already isn't a great "filterer" so...

The Gen 3's will NOT fit with these plates in place. Only option is the cut the living hell out of them or just remove them.

When I firstt put the gen 3 in I left all that in place. You can get it in but, your filters get deformed slightly and it makes the tubes / filter no fit like they should. Realy the flat portion of the air deflector is fine it is that angled 90 that attaches to the underside of the hood latch structure that is the biggest interference. I think I will take it off and just fab a flat sheet of aluminium or CF and leave the 90, s out. I, ll keep an eye out for any cooling issues and re access from there.
