Strap wrench on the knob, use a rag for protection, vise grips to hold the shifter under the shifter boot.

Lots of info on the forum here for this situation, you might find some pictures when searching.

be very careful if you want the shift knob. Nissan put so much lock-tight, that you might destroy the knob.

Just a tip. Google works better than the forums search feature. Google will usually point you to the correct thread here.

Oh, welcome to the forum.

Yep. ^^^ this.

In the google search box I always do:

"site:the370z.com stuff you want to know"

You get precision results like that.

Strap wrench on the knob, use a rag for protection, vise grips to hold the shifter under the shifter boot.

NOPE vise grip will slip and cause scratches and miring.

The best method I came across was 2 strap wrenches. 1 on the knob 1 on the shaft. Home Depo is the place to go for the wrenches. 6$ husky strap wrenches and if you open the package correctly you can return them when you’re done.

PITA to swap out the oem knob. Too much loctite at the factory. Use a strapwrench and visegrip I taped the stem and then gripped it. Twenty minutes of muscle-ing took about 20 minutes to break the knob loose from it's thread. I started to sweat a little bit when I did mine. it was more frustrating rather than difficult.

So this was my day. Buy a GOOD strap wrench. Mine didn't grab so I had to vice grip it.

In other news the Nismo knob feels nice!
