Cost of painting car new color?

Just wondering. Lately I have been craving a Z in this color: Anyone know about how much that should cost?

Can't be answered. Mayco would do it for $200 and a real elite shop could charge over 5k. Go get estimates. Also depends on how expensive and readily available that color is.

Damn that's a huge difference in prices. I will definitely never be taking my car to Maaco, but on the other hand I would rather put 5k towards a turbo.

Yea it would easily be over5 k at my shop for a color change. Biggest difference being that my shot guarantees our work for life. And also.... With places like maako you get what you pay for. Good luck.

Thanks. If this is the case then I am pretty much gonna scratch this idea. I'd be willing to do it for 2k, or 2.5k max, but it doesn't sound like I can get a quality job for that much. Not sure what made me think it would be that cheap in the first place. oh well

$5k would probably get you 'okay' results. If you want a show quality result, it's probably more like $10k.

Yeah exotic paints usually cost more.. how about a Vinyl wrap? Probably wouldn't want to do that drastic of a color but you could do something different than stock. Still probably looking over a grand though.

Provided there is no body work to do on the car you could repaint a base coat clear coat for around $2000 with materials and labor. Most paint runs about $100-$200 a gallon, for the color base and a $100 a gallon for clear coat and primer, then add another $150 for thinners.

If you went with a solid acrylic enamel 2 part system with a hardener added to the paint it even cheaper. That is what they put on at the cheap paint shops, the cheap shops are not a bad option if your just getteing an old beater or project car freshend up etc. You do most of the small ding and rust repair your self and they spray on the primer and top coat and your done, not show or factory quality, but for around $600 its not a bad deal.

You really have to look around for deals on the painting, as the Z is a very small car and it doesn't take much in materials or time to paint it, most of the work is in removing the tail tights and grill areas and masking the car properly.

Also it shouldn't take any longer than 8 hrs to paint a car properly, once its prepped.

I would never advise anyone to change the color on a new model car, unless they are redoing over as a custom etc, most of the time when you change the color of the car you need to a lot of body disassembly of the car, to do the color change correctly.

You wouldn't... my point was that the price isn't something that could be quoted because of varying rates... I had a car painted by Maco once and it came out awful... they painted the muffler and all the trim and there was paint globs dripping down the side and I didn't even change the color.
