Default Passenger seat, dogs & airbags question

Hello,

I will be transporting two small dogs (10-15 lbs) along with my wife. My wife alone doesn't weight much and usually the airbag stays OFF( light illuminated) when she's in the car. However, w/the addition of the two dogs, it will come on.

I realize that in the event of a crash and the air bag deployed, she'd crush the dogs between herself and the airbag, killing them.

Is it safe for me to unplug the sensor beneath her seat so the airbag will stay off for this trip?

Thanks.

Wow, thats an interesting one. Can't put the dogs in the back rather then sitting on her? In an accident with the dogs sitting on her lap - they don't really have a good chance as it is

Def cannot put them in the back - not only will we have bags (long weekend) they are momma's girls and will insist on sitting with her. I have harnesses for both of them that attach to the seat belt - so are "belted in".

I know it's not ideal, but I think unplugging the airbag would be best and refrain from speeding and driving aggressively go without saying.
Yeah, it's a tough one.

Man my sensor will detect a person even with a bag or two of groceries on the seat.

Or if you really want to be the safest rent a car for this trip.

Unless the dog is restrained its going to go flying around the car. Not to be cold hearted but the forces involved in accidents are very large and too sudden to react to.
Of course - the dogs are both strapped in. I could rent a car ... I'd rather not though, but we'll see. Maybe we wont' bring the pups.
