powdercoating doesnt work on plastic because essentially you charge the powder which then sticks to the metal, which is normally grounded so it would attract the charged powder.

Nope, sprayed mine myself using properly autobody grade materials and haven't had a problem whatsoever. Sounds like he just doesn't want to do it.

I've had mine color matched for years without an issue. That body shop doesn't know how to paint if they think all painted door handles will fade. There are thousands of cars that come from the factory with painted handles.
