I wonder if anyone can post a pic of their Nismo knob set up with ring under the boot. I guess it won't take me long to unscrew it and pop it on the bottom.

I didn't even know that the Nismo titanium knob came with two options? Or is it just a matter of one being older than the other? So do I have the "good" version then? ;)

You have the better and more expensive version.

How are these on really hot days? I had a machined metal knob on my daily driver before, and for the first 5 minutes on a hot, sunny day, I screamed like a biatch every time I had to shift gears. I used to jump from 1st to 4th gear to minimize the pain.

It gets pretty warm.

Yeah I liked that look too, but I read(heard) that it may be a little "lighter" than the titanium? I may be wrong.

I would imagine it would get pretty warm. I also keep a microfiber towel in the car for dusting the interior at stop lights so I could always throw that on top of the knob after I park ;)

It gets mad hot on mine here in Cali since my car is sunbaked 24/7. What I'm about to do is go seek a tailor or something and make a custom black leather cover with red stitching to prevent it from getting super hot. It will pretty much be just an oblong cover with no close-ends.

They are lighter since it is made of aluminum.

UPDATE: So I finally got to drive her around all week and weekend. Was trying to get a good feel of the shift knob. I must say, it gives the car a totally different feel. Throws seem shorter and crisper, therefore sportier. I love the joystick grip. The knob also looks so great in the interior.

On a side note, the shift patterns on the top of the knob (the one you adhere) are laser etched/engraved, correct? In other words, I won't have to worry about my thumb wearing out the pattern over time?

the paint inside the etching wears away slightly after some use

I've ordered mine tonight after reading your thread. thanks, fromg2z.

eddieconfetti 03-28-2011 06:08 PM

so the final answer about this titanium shift knob not getting that hot and is bearable to touch during the summer days is true or false.....

thats my only worry about getting aftermarket metal shiftknobs. i dont want to deal with burning my hand.

So far it hasn't gotten hot to the touch. If it does, I have several micro fibers that I can slip on there after I park... no biggie.

It gets really hot, no joke. Here in CA my car is parked outside 24/7 so it gets baked. One of these days I'm going to have a custom made leather with red stitching to cover it.

If you dont mind destroying your stock knob, then go for it. Otherwise, it will frustrate you due to the amount of loctite Nissan has poured into it.
