I think purple would look sick with that color of car. not to mention very unique

wheee! 02-10-2011 09:43 PM

sick as in 'good' or sick as in 'blechhh'! :icon17:

ThoriumHotdog 02-10-2011 11:02 PM

I think a darker purple would look better.

dcrew1x 02-10-2011 11:57 PM

hey falcor,

how did you do the inside of the seats, or where the seams are hard to reach at? I guess some thin painter's tape?

Falcor 02-11-2011 07:31 AM

no i just used one hand to pull the cushion back as much as possible and went at it. as long as you go slow you'll get it. just remember that it is impossible to not get it on the seat itself. just try to minimize contact as much as possible.

This is a great mod though guys, congrats!

There are guys on the camaro forum that have done this months ago and say that it hasn't faded at all.
I figure that if it does then I'll just reapply.

it'll depend on if the seats are exposed to the sun for a long time or not. If your car is in the garage all the time, it'll last a long time, but if it is in the direct sun all day, it'll likely fade over a short period of time.

Lemers 02-13-2011 10:30 AM

Has anyone found a good burgundy color yet?

wheee! 02-13-2011 10:49 AM

I am going to check at the Michael's craft store here in town. They advertise several types of fabric dye pens. Will have to see how close they are to burgundy...

Lemers 02-13-2011 11:48 AM

Let me know!

Falcor 02-13-2011 02:36 PM

you should do yellow on a black cherry z. as long as you have leather of course.

Lemers 02-13-2011 04:11 PM

As nice as your color scheme is gold or yellow isn't highlight color of my choice.

wheee! 02-13-2011 04:59 PM

I second that. ^^

Still looking for a burgundy...

Falcor 02-13-2011 10:13 PM

I hear ya. but burgundy isn't much of a "highlighting". to me seems like it would be hardly noticeable, if subtlety is what your going for then that will look great. I was trying to think of a color that would *pop* but wouldn't clash with the cars color.

wheee! 02-13-2011 10:27 PM

Well the purple 'pops' but it is too pink for a match. I like subtle. I am also painting the inside drums of the sport wheels to match the body colour. Very subtle....

cant wait to see some pics!

wheee! 02-13-2011 10:32 PM

lol. My garage queen is waiting for warm weather before she shows herself. And I need the warmer weather to do the wheel mods. Stitch mod will happen as soon as I find the right colour.

wheee! 02-22-2011 04:46 PM

Found the Colour for Black Rose cars!

Finally!

Michael's has the MARVY UCHIDA pens for fabric dyeing. Colour # 132, Alizarin Crimson is the closest I have seen to Black Rose yet. It has a brush tip and goes on very accurately.

The stitches are hard to photograph in the garage with flash, but the colour is just right for our Black Rose/Cherry cars.

The bright purple and red attempts on the right were just too far off. This one will be perfect IMO...

Rep points if you are doing this mod to your Black Rose/Cherry/Bordeaux car!

Sibze 02-22-2011 05:30 PM

Are you going to do it?

wheee! 02-22-2011 05:38 PM

Yup. When it warms up enough to get out there and survive!...

Sibze 02-22-2011 05:43 PM

Haha. Nice!

wheee! 02-28-2011 02:52 PM

Finally!

I did it! All done, yay!

I warmed up the garage as best I could and did the stitching today. Colour is awesome and matches the Black Rose/Cherry/Bordeaux perfect.

I know the flash makes the colours wash out a bit, but it is the best I can do in these temps!!! Still - 30C here!!

wheee! 03-01-2011 09:29 PM

Did the Z logo in the hatch mat too!

Lemers 03-02-2011 07:15 AM

Looks great.

Carbon Fiber Element 03-02-2011 07:18 AM

Not feelin it really.

wheee! 03-02-2011 09:26 AM

I think the pictures are really not representing the colour very well. This pic of the colour is closer than the full seat shots. The colour on the left threads is the Black Rose and the threads on the right were purple and below that red.

http://www.the370z.com/members/wheee...y-burgundy.jpg

It is too cold to take the car outside of the garage and the lighting sucks. The colour looks a LOT closer to Black Rose/Cherry in person than with flash photos. I think the silver in the thread still reflects a lot of the light in flash photos.

I will take new pics in the spring when I can get the car in the sun. They are predicting at least another two or three weeks of -20C here....

Sibze 03-02-2011 10:24 AM

I like it

Falcor 03-02-2011 10:59 AM

Thats great man! Good Job on the color match. And thanks for the pics!

No Problem! To Each their own! Personally I really dislike a coloured car with Carbon fibre body parts slapped on like a jigsaw puzzle... :icon17:

The Alcantra is harder to do because it will absorb the dye, but the Uchida pen is so sharp-tipped that it is easy if you have a steady hand.

Mr&Mrs 03-08-2011 06:37 PM

I would end up ripping the car apart if I tried this. Looks good though nice job guys.
