9500ix; The GPS is a wonderful addition and is what made me choose it over the V1. I do mostly city driving, so it was natural that I chose the 9500ix. The only thing I dislike about it is that the 9500ix only comes in the blue led lights, while I would prefer to have the red lights that were available on the 9500i, V1, or even the 8500.

I have an older Passport Solo S2. Hasn't failed me yet. I would love to upgrade, but can't justify the cost at this time.

This is not entirely true. While radar detectors are not legal for the general public there is a way around this feature. Since a radar detector does not operate on a bandwidth which is protected there is a way to be "licensed" to use the bandwidth in which the detector operates. Any HAM radio operator has a license to operate devices in this band which just happens to include radar detectors. A state can not dictate your bandwidth use while using a federal license to use said bandwidth. But that is if you really care about using a detector in VA.

I have a V1 for my RSX-S and another for my family's MDX. Got my sister a Passport 9500 (or so, top of the line at the time before the GPS ones), but it got stolen in Chicago when somebody shattered her window.

I love my V1, best mod eva-R

I use the 9500IX and it has worked well on several roadtrips even going to Phoenix last Christmas where they had lots of speed cameras and redlight cameras. I have used it daily on my 50 mile commute for the last 10 months and have always had enough warning.
I hear the redline and V1 are better for cross country driving while the 9500IX is suited for driving around town- probably due to the IX's filtering that reduces false alerts.
I still keep a lookout for stationary LEO since Laser is the biggest threat to your cruising pleasure. I have only come across it one time though.

I went with the bell 995 since I couldn't justify the price of a v1 or 8500. I had a bell 985 (995s predecessor) for 5 years previously and loved it.

The 995 doesn't seem as good as the 985, however I believe that part of it is cops learning to use the guns properly (not leaving them on the whole time). However, there are times where the K or Ka band seems to alert me way too late.

If a cop is on the side of the road with a car pulled over and K or Ka left on, my 985 would alert me from a LONG ways off, now it does sometimes, but not others. Also, the stationary radars on the side of the road that display your speed, I get warned about them at a closer distance than the 985.

I believe this may be because bell attempted to reduce false alerts but increasing the alert threshold because once I'm alerted, it locks onto the signal and alerts me for 1/2 mile past the things usually. I'd honestly prefer a few more false alerts if it means I'm less likely to get a surprise.

With that said, its the best for it's price range.
