Post Harness Bar / Roll Cage / Brace Bar Updates!

Ok, so i looked around and didnt see any of this condensed into a single thread and decided that it was time to do so.

Basicialy after searching around multiple forums and using the magical thing called Google i have found 3 basic ways to currently secure a harness in your 370z. This issue is mainly for people who wish to use 4, 5 and 6 point safety harnesses in their cars without hurting or killing themselves but some of our more serious track members might like the info on cages.

1. You can replace your stock internal brace bar with the Powerhouse Amuse R1 Titanium Brace Bar. Since i found the thread on it over at Swat Performance ive linked them They are currently selling it for a little less than $1000 USD
PROS: This Bar has the benefits of being a simple bolt on mod and does not take up any additional space in your car unlike the cages below. It also probably saves some weight but who knows. It does look dam good!
CONS: Only has bolt on harness mounting points for 1 (bar is reversible so R/H or L/H seat can bolt in) Now this is solvable by using a wrap around style harness for the second seat but not as convenient. Any reputable vendor can point you towards the different types of harnesses. Also this bar will offer no additional support in the event of a rollover. (DUH!)

2. Pre-Made Roll Cage / Bar / Harness Bar. Currently the only one i have found on the market is a part Bolt on part U-Weld Kit made by Autopower. (thanks to Reaper42's thread for this) The only ones to have this kit at the moment is the Outperformanceshop SEMA '10 Nismo Red 370z. The Kit is a 4 part kit to be complete and comes pre made. You will need to bolt a few pieces together, cut 4 different holes in some of the internal areas of your car and then weld the main supports onto the car frame itself where they tell you to. All told the kit costs around $1500 USD for all 4 parts but you dont have to use all of them.
If you go to www.outperformanceshop.com and then look in the top left corner you should see a link to their project car. (id link it but my comp is retarded when it comes to their site and just jacks up the links)

PROS: The kit offers solid rollover protection and considering what it is, a relitivley easy way to put a rollover bar in your car. In addition, despite having to cut a little OutPerformanceShop says it does not cut down the view through the rear view mirror at all (im not so sure about that)

CONS: Some welding and cutting is required and the bar takes up some space in the car. All in all tho not 2 much. In addition only wrap around style harnesses can be used with this bar.

3. The third option at the moment is to get a custom cage / roll bar / harness bar made. There are many professionals out there who do a great job. If you want examples of this you can check out TravisJB's 370Z Race Car Build Journal for more details. According to Travis a kit like his will cost 2k-5k.

PROS: Its simple, a full or partial setup like this can help save lives if done correctly and allow you to set up your harnesses the way you want them.

CONS: For the average street / occasional AutoX or track driver a full cage or bar requires wearing a helmet all the time or it becomes a safety hazard itself! Unless racing is what you do....or you just enjoy wearing a helmet all the time to work and back i would not recommend this. In addition, for the average driver this is a very expensive mod that wont get much use.

Another person who mentioned he was interested in building a bolt on hoop harness bar is SCOTT @RELENTLESS AUTOSPORTS. Feel free to look him up and then PM him to see if we can get the ball rolling.

Ill throw a safety note down at the bottom here...if your even still reading lol. Remember safety harnesses that are incorrectly installed are a hazard. Always refer to your safety harness manufacturers installation guide to determine the correct mounting and all that.

If you have any questions or even better...updates to all this let me know and ill edit the thread. If this serves no purpose other than to allow me to organize my thoughts on all this then meh, i learned a lot while looking it up. If i didn't mention you when i built this thread but borrowed what you found and posted elsewhere im sorry lol.

I also emailed the American Distributor for Cusco, a major name in this game and found out they are working a 370z prototype cage right now. I have posted their response to my email below! I look forward to seeing how this turns out.

Hey Brandon,

Thanks for your email, as of right now they are still in the pre planning phase for the roll cage, the rough ETA for the roll cage is going to be this fall when they have design this product. Please check back with us around August/ September time frame and we should have a better picture of the release date for the roll cage. Let me know if you have any questions thanks!

Thanks for the plug, Mozen.
We are now going to proceed and get the process going on this harness bar. Hoping to start next week or so.

Hey guys, I wanted to know if the stock strut bar was acceptable to use as your harness bar or if this is a HORRIBLE and absolutely unsafe idea...?

I would say that the stock rear strut bar is unsafe.

Anything not as god awful expensive as the Amuse and no ugly burnt Ti would be nice... Not too particular on the type of mount either eyes or wrap around, just something stronger than stock.

If only there was enough interest in this to make the project worth all the effort.

I disagree... although not everyone is willing to pay for safety

I could use something like the Porsche gt2, gt3; I will be getting Brides this year so a good mounting point would be great.
