What is this?

If it is in fact tree sap, try applying a small amount of purell hand sanitizer on it, wait a couple of seconds, then wipe off with a microfiber towell.

If it is in fact tree sap, try applying a small amount of purell hand sanitizer on it, wait a couple of seconds, then wipe off with a microfiber towell. This has worked great for me in the past and does not damage the clear coat. The purell contains alcohol (a fairly mild solvent) and soap which disolves this stuff with no problem while leaving the clear coat intact. Afterwards, hit it with a bit of wax to protect your (now purelled and unprotected) clear coat.
