These places keep popping up on my 09 370z. There are no dents or up-dings. They feel smooth to the surface. They appear scaly. Z3 is on the hood and Z2 is found on the door. Thanks.

I'm sorry, but your car has cancer.

mine have one of those things on the hood... could be anything from bird crap to tree sap that caused it. Nissan has a crappy clearcoat.

Unfortunately, permanent clearcoat damage. Sometimes bird droppings have an acid in them (from what they eat). Always clean off bird droppings when you find them. Carry a some form of quick detailer in your Z.

Probably tree sap, see if you can gently remove it with your finger nail.
Then get some polish to bring the paint back a smooth finish..

Sorry my friend... It is Tree Sap!! Try to clay bar it, but it looks like damage has already been done.

If it is in fact tree sap, try applying a small amount of purell hand sanitizer on it, wait a couple of seconds, then wipe off with a microfiber towell. This has worked great for me in the past and does not damage the clear coat. The purell contains alcohol (a fairly mild solvent) and soap which disolves this stuff with no problem while leaving the clear coat intact. Afterwards, hit it with a bit of wax to protect your (now purelled and unprotected) clear coat.
