Official GO PRO HD 370Z Owners Thread:Mounting Tips, tricks, Pictures, Videos Inside
First, I would like to thank Ryan@Forged for a great deal on my GO PRO HD. He shipped it super priority so that I could attend my first AUTOX during first week of March.
After the Autox event, for some weird reason, my Go PRO HD stopped charging. I couldn't charge it. I also couldn't turn it on. Ryan also replied very promptly and forwarded my issues to GO PRO Warranty Dept. Within a week, I received a BRAND NEW camera from GO PRO company  . So, today weather was beautiful and I had few hours to kill. So I decided why not make some videos along with some 370Z mounting pictures. I can change video recording settings, backlids, etc and see how the video looks. Before we start, let me write down some basic info. GO PRO HD records in following formats: Quote:
http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...D/DSC03455.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...D/DSC03426.jpg Below I will post my video settings, mounting pictures and a sample video so that you can see how it looks. Also, PLEASE feel free to contribute in this thread if you own a GO PRO HD camera. Follow the simple format you can see below. Lets keep the mounting pictures limited to 2 . Thanks. Pictures -- Location: Video setting: Frames: Backlid: Impression: YouTube Video embed: EXTERIOR http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...D/DSC03433.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...D/DSC03432.jpg Location: Exterior. Rooftop. Video setting: 1280x960P Frames: 30 FPS Backlid: OPEN Backlid. Impression: Pretty good. Didn't notice as much wind noise as with the closed backing (During my autox, I used closed). YouTube Video embed: http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...D/DSC03435.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...D/DSC03434.jpg Location: Front fangs. Video setting: 1280x960P Frames: 30 FPS Backlid: OPEN Backlid Impression: I love this view! This should be a good one during your track days. YouTube Video embed: http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...D/DSC03443.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...D/DSC03445.jpg Location: Rear diffuser area (between exhaust) Video setting: 1280x960P Frames: 30 FPS Backlid: OPEN Impression: Wow, the sound quality was amazing since wind wasn't hitting the camera. You can hear the exhaust ROAR in this setup. If you're testing your exhaust, this should be a great mount. BTW, this video was flipped via Windows live movie maker. Very simple to do (1 click). Love how the suspension moves when the Z is in motion  YouTube Video embed: http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...D/DSC03438.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...D/DSC03436.jpg Location: Ground effects/side mount. Video setting: 1280 x 960p Frames: 30 FPS Backlid: OPEN backlid Impression: This was something I decided to try just out of curiosity. I think it came out pretty good. During turns, this view is pretty entertaining to watch. YouTube Video embed: http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...C03118-1-1.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...DSC03119-1.jpg Location: Driver side rear quarter panel Video setting: 1280x720p Frames: 60 FPS Backlid: CLOSED backlid Impression: My VERY first attempt at recording. This can be a pretty good location. This was shot with closed door hence the horrible wind noise. But with open lid, this may record the exhaust tone too. I gotta try it again! YouTube Video embed: http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...x/DSC03145.jpg Location: Driver side fender Video setting: 1280x720p Frames: 30 FPS Backlid: CLOSED backlid Impression: My VERY first attempt at Autox recording. This is something new I decided to try. May not be the best position. At least now you know how it look :D. YouTube Video embed: http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...D/DSC03449.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...D/DSC03453.jpg Before I continue, this setup will be the comparison setup. I am going to compare OPEN Backlid vs. Closed in the following videos. All other settings were unchanged. http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...D/DSC03455.jpg Location: Passenger side window Video setting: 1280x720p Frames: 60 FPS Backlid: CLOSED Impression: Man, horrible wind noise! Using the closed backlid gives you this high-pitched wind noise that you DO NOT get with the open lid. I will ONLY use close lid from now on if a.It's raining out, or b. I'm diving into a lake with my 370Z. :bowrofl: Also please note, I only drove upto 60 MPH in this video. YouTube Video embed: http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...D/DSC03426.jpg Location: Passenger side window Video setting: 1280x720p Frames: 60 FPS Backlid: OPEN backlid Impression: Probably one of the best setting. During the begining of this video, I speed up to 90 MPH. Even though there are still wind noise, this is probably the BEST you'll get out of this camera during track events. I highly recommend the OPEN backlid YouTube Video embed: I'm looking for more exterior submissions from you guys  INTERIOR: http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...D/DSC03427.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...D/DSC03428.jpg Location: Top upper left hand corner (camera is flipped) Video setting: 1280x960p Frames: 30 FPS Backlid: OPEN backlid Impression: I liked it a lot! Quality is really good. I could have gotten a little wider image if I selected 1280x720p. Video WAS flipped via Windows live movie maker (very easy to do). I also have another interior video mount idea which I'll post in future ;) YouTube Video embed: Miscellaneous Mounts : Helmet Mount http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...m/DSC05069.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...m/DSC05070.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...m/DSC05075.jpg Location: Right side of a helmet. Video setting: 1280x720p Frames: 60 frames per second. Backlid: Open Impression: Beautiful videos EVERY single time. If you're Kart, this is the BEST possible helmet mount in my opinion. The sound is perfect with the open backlid. Thanks to ilive2win for this mount technique YouTube Video embed: Outside: Indoor: I'm eagerly looking to fill up this thread with more interior mount submission from you guys ;) |
The rear mount looking under the car is awesome! I have to try that.
|
Grrr...you are making me want this more and more.

Thanks AK. You have given me some ideas! Love the lower front mount view.

Your Kelvin temperature is way too hot in that, is it on auto?
|
I wonder what kind of view you would get with it mounted hanging off the inside of the rear hatch aiming out the front? Would it capture a full view (driver, stick, wheel/dash and out the windshield)?

BTW, I added two old positions to the list (one from VERY first testing video and one from autox). Check them out. Also, feel free to post your angles and videos in this thread. This will be good thread learning which locations will give you what kind of video. |
Ugh... add another thing to the wish list. Thanks a lot, AK! :icon14:
<hears his wallet crying in pain somewhere in the kitchen...> |

Cool, makes me want one too!
That lower front bumper position seems like it amplifies the speed lol. Looks like you are going faster than you probably are. |

BTW, found these 3 awesome videos for all GO PRO HD Mounting tips and tricks (and accessories explained). Especially that orange rubber, I had NO CLUE why it was there for! :icon17: Video 1 Video 2 Video 3 |
I just ordered one today (also through Ryan@Forged). Thanks AK, for the the awesome review and samples (+1 rep). This will work well for filming myself driving, as well as for my photography interests...definitely a good alternative to sticking my expensive dSLR equipment outside a fast moving car.

Hooray! According to the GoPro website we should get the new firmware with video flipping and more SD card compatibility on May 17th. Just in time for ZdayZ!

BTW, I was bored and came up with this idea to put the GO PRO under the car. Kinda like Barrett Jackson "chassis cam" Location: Under the car Video setting: 1280x720p Frames: 60 FPS Backlid: OPEN Impression: Makes me dizzy! :rofl2: But I think it's pretty cool. If you have installed an exhaust or HFC and want to check for air leaks, this is a great way to find out. YouTube Video embed: |
this is great, i just ran up to la and bought a gopro hd today. got a great deal on it. im goin tomorrow to get a better sd card. ill post up somevideos once i figure it out haha

Quick question. What is the easiest most user friendly MP4 editor that's pretty much free? I realized when I got my Go Pro HD that it records in MP4, and some vids I just want to chop the front and back of the vid, and wondering what you guys have used. I'm still new to this, but playing with it alot. Thanks for the assist.

http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...m/theeoeie.png BTW, please accept my apology. Youtube has deleted two of my accounts (one with 140 videos and other with 70 :shakes head:). I'm gonna try to get these videos up soon. Then you can compare how closed vs open etc sounds like. Also, I'm updating the software in about 10 minutes :woot:. I can't wait to flip my video (and use 1 touch recording) |

yep the wind forced it to move up. I needed screw driver to tighten it more, that was the max I could do by hands. |
Thanks for the info.
Where are you guys getting the best deals on these? And is the HD a huge step up from the normal 'wide' version they have? I was thinking about getting the old normal version at pep boys for the track night this wednesday, but I might wait if its really that much better |
Quote:
I got mine from ebay I think you can get one for $230-240 easily. I haven't done much research between normal and HD version, but what I have read is its a massive step up from older version. Also, why get non-hd these days? it's all about quality now |
Can't wait for the re-up of the videos!

Also, please accept my apology on some early videos (video size). I shot with R4 setting (which is not full WIDE screen. It was my 2nd week of playing around with it :o. I think later videos are 720P full screen WIDE). Now here's the most exciting part, I will try to update the software today which enables me to flip the video. This opens up a whole new door of possibilities ;). I actually have two AWESOME inside mount idea in my head that you can use at the track (HPDE, Driving Education etc). Please stay tuned. Also, PLEASE feel free to post your video. Don't forget to give us what setting you used and whether it's open or closed backing. Thank you Follow this format: Pictures -- Location: Video setting: Frames: Backlid: Impression: YouTube Video embed: |
