What's "COM" ?? I'm in NASA but they do not have NHMS in the rotation. Short drive for me so would like to try it out.

~ 7 hour drive (with stops) to Watkins Glen but worth it

Sorry COMSCC, see COMSCC.org. NHMS is their home track so they run about 4-5 events there a year and only about 2-3 away events. They run HPDE on Day 1 and time trial on Day 2 for most events. $100 rebate for your first event with them.

Mounting Place

Zxces50 . . .

Nice vids and nice lines.

Where did you mount the camera for the Lime Rock Quick Laps? Were you shooting in 1080p?

Zxces50 05-26-2011 12:50 PM

Quick Laps was mounted on Tow Hook. If you look at Paddock shot in "Lime Rock Go Pro 720" you can see the camera mount on the car (this mount shown was not used in the "720" vid I must have inserted this intro from the Quick laps run

Generally I shoot 720 and post 720 as very good quality and reasonable memory size. On interior shots will do 1080p but post to Utube in 720 only to keep file size down

cheat sheet on my typical settings above

Thought I would add this. Just did a little research since I got mine and I had a lot of wind noise!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vat8rruRrpY

Next test I do will be the bottle mod and another good thing to do is to place tape over the mic holes. Might look weird, but you can't argue with no wind noise!

Chris is that Devens?? I did an SVTOA autox event there once. We were hitting top of 3rd in the slalom!

Yep! The old SVTOA courses were the best, I remember hitting near the top of 3rd gear in the G35 on plain old tires, who knows how fast the race tire guys were going. My buddy in his Lightning did a 360 at 80 mph and stayed on course! SVTOA is now NE-SVT but we still build some pretty good courses, just not quite as fast anymore, LOL. Now we try to build the courses so that they have a good flow at a speed that will be in the power band for most cars. You might get into 3rd gear in a couple of places but it's not like the old days.

RCZ 06-15-2011 03:17 PM

It was so fun man, guy took me out in an Ariel Atom 2 SC at that event and I wouldve crapped my pants if it hadnt been for the G forces.

How do you guys know when the camera is level? Do you all have the little backpack ldc thing?

ZForce 06-16-2011 01:51 AM

Too expensive at $79, picked up a portable 7" lcd portable monitor from local giant electronics chain for $59. Will be testing it out this Sat on my Feather River Run.

GoPro BacPac

The BacPac is worth the cost because it makes the camera so much easier to use and provides a playback screen which is attached to the camera.

spearfish25 06-16-2011 10:06 AM

I bought the LCDback and love it. Really makes the GoPro more usable.

Here's what I managed to do during my autox last weekend. This was my fourth run and I was getting frustrated that my buddy kept throwing down incredible times. I figured I'd 'go for it' and this was near the top of 2nd gear. the car started to drift but it felt very controllable so I figured 'what the hell, ride it out'. Well, a very slow slalom was fast approaching and I couldn't get out of the drift without screwing it all up. Ended up holding my corrections too long. One might argue I was distracted by the giddy laughter of my passenger!

Second video is of the most incredible save (obviously not me). I watch it over and over...mesmerizing and something to strive for.

Too small of a screen IMO for the price.

Just got one of these. Thanks for the post AK, your tips will come in handy. I can't wait to try this. Now all I need is more stuff to do.

cereal2k 07-20-2011 10:23 PM

So I'll be rocking this for the next North GA mountain.

Location: head strap
Video setting: 720p = 1280x720 pixels (16:9), 30 fps, 8 Mbit/s data rate
Frames: 30
Backlid: open with extended case for the extra battery pack (5hr recording time).
Impression: Awesome. Just like being there with an "in game" feeling.
Head mount test in the burbs. Done in the evening to not too many strange looks. The hard top is put down at the start for more light with the evening approaching and for more audio from the intakes and exhaust and headrest speakers. I had to have the headstrap up at an angle somewhat since I have the extended case for the extra battery. Still captures the windshield view and the cockpit/wheel/dash area.

YouTube Video embed:
The vid should be 15 minutes and should play out while embedded, but you may only get 7 minutes from my youtube page. Dunno why, but I'll likely re-upload it.

Skeeterbop 09-23-2011 11:28 PM

Mounted on the lip of the front bumper, i'm finding the closer i get to the ground the "faster" it feels. Tried mounting on the hood at the base of the window as well but didn't like it enough to upload.

hdskull - where in SD was this filmed? I grew up here but it doesn't look familiar.

Also, I'm in the UTC area and would like to hear the FI catback you have if you wanted to meet up.

Gungrave 10-11-2011 07:51 PM

So umm....just a quick question. Am I the only one that uses the ContourHD instead of the Go Pro? I only use it from inside though, so not trying to accidently lose it lol

Dell's Inspiron computer product line started as a range of laptop computers targeted at the entry-level, budget, a Mobile Celeron or Mobile Pentium II processor with SDRAM, and had a high starting price of $2,799. Today, though, the Inspiron line mainly consists of mid-level computer systems.

^reported^ again

I like the ContourHD, a friend uses it to record his snowboarding adventures and the quality is pretty good. The street price is usually a fair bit cheaper as well which makes it a solid value. It is a little more compact which makes it good for helmet mounting. The downside is that because of the tiny size the battery is slightly smaller (and no battery pack option) and it uses microSD instead of regular SD. microSD isn't a huge issue, just a minor annoyance to use an adapter to stick in the laptop. It also uses a fixed 135 degrees instead of selectable like the GoPro (via resolution setting). Both cameras suck for audio and wind noise.

There are advantages and disadvantages to each, I think that GoPro sells more units mainly because they have better marketing and created packages targeted to particular market segments (motorsports, biking etc).

Well I have been putting this off for a couple years and now I'm in. My wife got me the Hero2 for Christmas with all the mounts you can get. I went and got a 32g card and uploaded the firmware update.
Any suggestions on a mount for the headrest? The rear glass was also something I was thinking of trying. I see one of the posts, with an image on the headrest, but not sure what was used to actually mount to the seat.

Just got the mount for my gopro HD. Had it for snowboarding and other things. I have to say I got a little worried when getting on the HWY, but the really happy with it. Going to take it on the ride to the NW nissan meet this weekend.

antbear 03-20-2012 08:33 AM

"I have to say I got a little worried when getting on the HWY"

Why were you worried???

sfearl1 03-20-2012 08:49 AM

i've got the HD2 and really like it, but i cannot for the life of me figure out how to shoot the quality video that's in the HD2 commercial (which was shot entirely with the HD2).

any tips on the settings that were used? was it out of the case to get that quality/clarity?

i'm sure everybody here has seen the vid, but if not here it is...

Worried that it would fly off... I have always only used it while boarding, which doesnt get to 70mph, then really only on a suction cup to stay on. Exspensive camera to mess up.
