Default Disabling 370 Intelligent Key Fob

Does anyone know how to disable the intelligent key fob?

The reason that I ask is that when I go out to swim I wish to leave the fob in a lockbox attached to the hook on the left underside rear of the car, mostly out of sight. However, this location is still within the intelligent key operating range, so I'd need to disable the fob.

I could also just attach the lockbox out of operating range of the fob, but haven't found anywhere to attach the lockbox (that is also somewhat discreet).

Thanks in advance -

That would work, but not really feasible on a regular basis. I am curious if there is a quicker/easier method....

For example, I read somewhere that if you hold the lock and unlock buttons on the fob for a few seconds, the driving lights will flash 3 times, then it will be disabled. I tried this, got the 3 flashes....but it was still enabled.

How about a sealed pouch for the key, that will fit in your pocket? I have a few that came with some shorts I got at Academy.

that disables the horn sound when locking and unlocking iirc.

you can get a "faraday pouch" that should block the wireless signal. Pretty common thing to buy since thieves starting using wireless boosters to unlock cars. (the booster is positioned near the house, boosts the key fob signal enough to unlock the car in the driveway / garage)

That might work, but I would be hesitant to take the fob into the water for fear of ruining it if there was a leak or somehow breaking it.

I've considered that, but the key with the pouch would not fit into the lockbox....just not enough space.

You could go the expensive route and use a car alarm/unlock/remote start type deal that works with your smart phone. There are some that put a keypad on your windshield aand unlock via PIN code, iirc.

Thank you for your replies.

To be more clear, I have to leave everything with the car (phone too) since I am swimming in the ocean....

it's a pretty extreme solution but
https://www.compustar.com/accessories/rps-touch/
would work perfectly for you.

Other things that come to mind are. you could mod your fog light to be a little hide away spot for the key. Some people hide trailer hitches behind theirs so definitely doable.

Edit: NVM pretty sure i have a solution for you

I just tested it. The car wont allow you to lock the key inside. When you try to do it it beeps and wont lock the car. UNLESS, you remove the key from the keyfob and lock the car using the key in the locking cylinder in the door.

Then it has no problem locking the car. And will not unlock if you press the buttons. So just remove your key from the fob when you go swimming. Lock with the key and you should be all good.

Yep, that works. Just tried it on my car. You nailed it. Thanks so much for testing that on your end and for getting back to me!
