Oh, this is just vile! I'm an allergy sufferer and just assumed that having an in cabin air filter listed as one of the things you have to replace means that it is something that actually comes with the car...
|
hey guys, i did the install today and uploaded some extra pics so you guys can do this easier. you don't have to pull hard and there's no chance anything can break unless u're stup!d.
there is a total of 7 screws to be removed, not 6. u'll be pulling real hard if you don't remove the hidden screw and break something. i added to caneman88's original DIY here http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-d...tml#post384799 or just read below First off, i would like to thank caneman88 for pioneering this DIY, but I hope you don't mind if i expand a little more and make corrections on your DIY. Do this at your own risk, I'm not responsible if you break something using this easier modified directions. First off. there are 7 screws total. Screw #6 is sort of a hidden screw. Remove screw 1 -> 4. if you have a super long screw driver then remove 5 -> 7 also, if not then read next step. http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/3271/dsc01346ji.jpg http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/2781/dsc01349jq.jpg http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/1042/dsc01348g.jpg http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/9971/dsc01350j.jpg Next pull off the glove box. Grab the 2 spots circled in red and pull upwards. This allows you VERY easy access to screws 5 -> 7 as well as a much easier time removing the panel. This step is OPTIONAL, but as i mentioned, it gives you easy access to screws 5 -> 7 and it also gives you a spot to grab panel to pull it off. To put the glove box back, just line up the hinge and pop it back in. http://img688.imageshack.us/img688/1238/dsc01351.jpg http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/1575/dsc01352m.jpg Next GENTLY pull off the panel starting from the RIGHT side first. You don't wanna damage that extension area on the right side by pulling too hard on the left. Insert finger where the arrows are and grab the bottom with your other hand and pull. Do the same on the other side. Removing the glove box lanyard is optional (actually, mines popped off as i was figuring how to put the glove box back in after accidentally removing it) but it gives you more space to work with. Remember, pull GENTLY, you shouldn't have to pull hard after removing the hidden screw, #6. http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/8648/dsc01353mv.jpg The rest you can follow caneman88's to install/replace the filter. I just have one thing that I found might be useful and that is to cut 4 slots on the bottom of the filter wall so that you can close the vent door without smashing the filter. You'll know what i mean when you take off the vent door. Just line up the slots with the 4 things on the door and make like a 1/4" -> 1/2" cut. See pic for approx locations, measure the actual location with the vent door. http://img688.imageshack.us/img688/972/img4999.jpg Yes the arrow on the filter points down. Air is sucked from the top and down into the circular thing. I assume you guys know how to reverse the directions to put everything back. Rep points much appreciated if you found this addition helpful  |

As I mentioned earlier in the post, buy the CAF1766 filter or the equivilant. It is thinner and fits better than the CAF1792. There are runners at the back of the box that hold the filter up and the four tabs (on the filter door) that g96818 refers to hold the front up away from the fan..

just curious guys, but on my IS300 i have the exact same filter and filter holder assembly. to access it you just pinch the sides of the glovebox and the door pops off. not sure if you can do the same with the Z....

For those that want a charcoal impregnated filter, the Wix 24905 & Napa 4905 filter will fit fine.

Talked to the dealership... "Your car is due to have the filter replaced at 12 months." "Is there a filter in there now?" "No, but it will be replaced at 12 months." "The one that is not in there?" "Yes." "Ok, I have allergies, it would be really helpful if you put one in there now." "Ok, we'll order the part... it will be $45." "$45??? But the original is missing!" "Correct, but if you do an early replacement, it isn't covered by your warranty. You can wait until May and then we'll pay for it."

Dearly too unless you do the $15 DIY |
All I know is that the salesman told me the car had one before I bought it. I don't see how this is any different than the car arriving with rims but no tires and then being told I have to pay extra to have them put on.

Great writeup's guys. Let us know if you notice any difference in using the HVAC now (blower strength, smell etc...)
|
Having the HVAC air filtered is good and all, but I think it'd be really cool if there was some compartment in the bottom seat cushion that we could insert a charcoal filter into. Then I could fart with abandon and not have to deal with the aftermath so much. I mean, it's hard to drive safely when I have tears streaming from my eyes. (j/k)

OMG they exist! lol. I fart all the time in my car. If I had leather it'd be more fun for sure!

I bought my wife one for Xmas one year. Man, she was so pissed. That was like 10 years ago and she still yells at me for it every now and then.

I installed the cabin air filter this morning. The instructions and pictures on this thread are excellent. I used the STP CAF1766 filter.
My only addition/suggestion is to pull the glove box door off first. It is much easier to get to all the screws with the door removed. Just grab it on both sides as shown in the prior pictures and pull it straight out. I unhooked the teather too and just completely removed the door out of the way. When you put door back on hook the teather up first and then reinstall the door by pushing it back in place until the lower brackets lock in place. |
best method in getting out interior scratches?
Mostly they're to the lower left or right... the plastic "leather feeling" interior.
Which product, method? |
