I looked at the work order from the dealer and it said. "Check for air filter." The comment back was "no filter available for 2009." Which is technically correct, but it sounds like they were being lazy. I'm going to call them tomorrow!

Pushing_Tin 01-31-2010 07:23 PM

I wonder how much the Nissan brand filter is?

caneman88 01-31-2010 07:28 PM

One other item relocated the Ipod connection to the glove box to give more room to the very small center console PITA

jpit 02-01-2010 12:36 PM

I am in the middle of installing the cabin air filter. Just to clarify, you remove the glove box cover by pulling on the hinges at the bottom and then disconnect the snap holding the nylon cord. You must remove 7 screws to get to where the filter is installed - 4 at the top, 2 on the sides and 1 at the bottom which you can't see until you remove the glove box door. This is where I am having a problem. The filter goes in fine but there are four tabs on the cover that extend into the filter box that are preventing the reinstallation of the cover. Has anyone run into this problem? Upon further review I don't believe CAF 1792 is the right size filter. If you look inside the filter holder there are runners that hold the filter away from the fan and the four tabs on the plastic cover are designed to do the same thing. This filter is too thick to slide on top of the runners and to fit on the tabs. I think you need a thinner filter.

caneman88 02-01-2010 02:20 PM

Maybe the label part of the filter goes on the side that is not visiable when it is installed mine was a little snug but got it to fit.
it was a guess on the filter this is the one that works in the Nissan Maxima and some of the othe Nissans

jpit 02-01-2010 02:41 PM

I recommend the CAF1766. It is about 1/2' less thick and slides up onto the runners and the door tabs fit underneath it. Installation went fine. caneman, how did you put the plastic door back on with the four tabs protruding into the filter?

billydsz 02-01-2010 03:24 PM

This is just beyond bizarre. So the 09 370z has a place for a cabin filter, but no cabin filter installed. Wtf? Why?

theDreamer 02-01-2010 03:29 PM

So the 2010 model could have more "new" features.

jpit 02-01-2010 03:30 PM

No one seems to know why? They added it to the 2010 model although my dealer couldn't find the part number.

dthem370 02-01-2010 03:36 PM

so is there no part number or filter that we can buy for the 2010? it should be the same size for the 2009, right?

It's all stupid marketing BS. :shakes head:

6MT 02-01-2010 04:16 PM

IMHO, I wouldn't put one in there. A pain in the a$$ to change, let alone remember that it's there. I've seen some pretty "clogged" filters because paople have just forgotten that they're there. BTW, I sell cabin air filters. I agree with a previous post.... it is stupid marketing BS. AND it's only there because it means more money for the parts suppliers (again, IMO).

vipor 02-01-2010 04:19 PM

They don't seem to be a PITA to change. Just drop the glove box and BAM!

Changing the oil is a PITA.

Nissan missed a big Profit opportunity in the service dept for changing these..., but now (if they were only smart enough to recognize the opportunity) an even BIGGER profit opportunity for the original installation into '09's....

theDreamer 02-01-2010 05:50 PM

Forgot to stop by Autozone on my way home, might just order it online.

kenchan 02-01-2010 06:36 PM

YamahaR6 02-01-2010 07:28 PM

Took off the glove box and purchased:

LEXUS ES330 AIR CABIN FILTER 2004 2005 2006 ES 330 NEW! : eBay Motors (item 350303997198 end time Feb-10-10 12:02:51 PST)

There are exactly 7 screws for the glove box. And yes, have to "pull hard" to get it off.

Grab the bottom of the glove box and pull it towards the seat. You will first get the bottom out and then pull from the right side to get the top part out.

Just my 2 cents. Will confirm when the filter arrives that it fits.

Yep, us parts guys just love owners like this. Profit, profit, profit.

(and really no useful reason)

theDreamer 02-01-2010 09:25 PM

Glad to see some of you jumping in and buying filter(s), is there any standard size or anything I can look at picking up if I drop into an auto store this week(end)?

6MT 02-01-2010 09:28 PM

Oh, btw, if you're going to flame me for the "no reason" comment.... just think of this senario:

What if, this summer, you decide it's time to change that dirty, filthy filter under your glovebox. And, lets say, you break the glovebox removing it. Because it just "doesn't come off like it did the first time".

Now what...? Bet 'ya wish you hadn't installed the damn thing in the first place.

Well you can look at this way, it is required to be checked/replaced by Nissan if you follow the normal maintenance (for the 2010 Z). This is meant to be taken off & put back together, just be careful and you will be fine.

6MT 02-01-2010 09:31 PM

Sorry, I was speaking to the 2009 crowd. It's not in that year.

But it is the exact same car, just because Nissan decided to not put it in does not mean the part is meant not to be opened/added. I could understand if there were no screws to gain access to the panel and it was locked down, but it is a few screws and pop off like most any other panels in this car, just be careful.

:iagree:

And a good point for all attempting this!!!
Be careful, not to break or over tighten the screws....

jpit 02-01-2010 09:59 PM

I think the following cabin filters should fit: Bosch #P3785, Fram # CF10157, Purolator
#C35479, and WIX #24883. The size should be about 8.5" by 8.5" by 0.7".

YamahaR6 02-01-2010 10:04 PM

$10 expense... 5 mins of time... for a $50K car....mm...why not?

billydsz 02-01-2010 10:12 PM

Is the HVAC system the same in the 2010 as the 2009? The reason I ask is I assume you guys checked to see if the 2009 system can handle the increased back pressure through the filter and still heat and cool the car adequately??

If your Glove box is half empty then you will undoubtedly have a problem and break stuff. If your glove box is half full, you will have no issues at all and things will go swimingly......

:icon08: Doesn't half of one side equal half of the other side?? Doh!

kenchan 02-02-2010 12:23 PM

yah, just pull... and pull real hard. pull even harder if it doesnt come off.

if the steering wheel falls off in the other seat, then you know you pulled too hard.

tbonesteak 02-02-2010 12:38 PM

^^ lmao

Modshack pointed out "If your Glove box is half empty then you will undoubtedly have a problem and break stuff. If your glove box is half full, you will have no issues at all and things will go swimmingly......"

I should point out that my glove box was half empty when I started. I had the common sense to take out everything before I started and then put everything back so that it was half full and the installation went just fine.
