Wrapping a microfiber towel around a thin panel tool also worked sufficiently.

I dunno if my headliner is different than some. No way I could have gotten a q tip in there. I couldn't even slot a tiny screwdriver past the opening.

I ended up just using some silicone to adhere the wires in place but mostly out of sight.
