I don't think anybody was talking about a ram air effect, just a good source of cold air. I have seen a few tests of CAI's on dyno's where the results were improved with the bumper removed.
Dirt getting on the filters however is definitely going to be a big issue, but at least I can get the filter out through the wheel well. I could even put a dust filter behind the grill, or even a rain sock over the filter like what they use on motorbikes.
Those vents are just crying out to be used. Perhaps I'll run a pipe to the brake rotors instead.
