It's my understanding as well that the oil temp is the trigger for the limp mode at 260 but that would be the only thing depending on oil temp. When the oil temp is riding higher (I've certainly seen 210-220F) the coolant temperature would be lower (which is the inverse of what you see when the car is warming up). If the "panic" temperature regarding oil is 260, I can't see the coolant getting or being marked higher was my point. 9 dots is a lot of space, but I don't see what use indicating temperature between 260F and 350F would be. I might be overthinking that part.
