Default Intelligent Key Warning Light

Hey guys,

I'd appreciate any help/advice given here.

I have a 2010 Z, and the intelligent key warning light just came up on my dash. It came up a couple days ago, i replaced the key fob battery and the light went off. As of today, it just came back on. I left work and there was no dash.

I went home, came back to my car to go somewhere and the light came back on.

I have no idea what the problem is. I've seen on other forums that it could be the key fob battery, or some solenoid.

I also saw something regarding if you press the Start/Stop button too fast which could possibly be it?

Thanks in advance

Very common issue starting to pop up on the 2010 - 2009 Z's. Mine did this as well right around when I hit 8 years old on the car. The primary antenna that picks up the key fob in the car is situated right by the emergency hand break. The antenna becomes defective after 8 years or so and requires replacement.

I went through this for an entire summer and tried everything. After no luck with all the attempts I finally went to Nissan and spent nearly $200 just on them to look into it let alone fix it. They said the antenna that picked up the key fob was not working right and it had to be replaced, they wanted over $900 to fix it so I said no way ill just stick the key in the dash for now on. I can't justify spending $900 just for the ease of not sticking my fob into the dash.

Hope this helps

For more info on antenna (location, wiring, part number, R&R procedure, etc), see the FSM (link in my sig).

Thanks Cranberry and SouthArk, if the light comes back on I'll take a look at the antenna and see what should be done. I'm sure I could get the part myself and avoid taking it to the dealer.

The light is currently not on right now.

I may have been pushing the Start/Off button too quick and it was staying in AC Mode or something along the lines of that.

I have a 2014 model and now my light won't shut off, so I assume Nissan never really did address this. Only 35k miles on the car.

where's the how to on pulling the fuse? My car still starts and drives ok....don't want to be stranded.

Does pulling the fuse just disable the steering lock?

They quit putting steering locks on in 2012.

ok, so pulling the fuse does me no good.

Any other ideas why I have the light on? I replaced the fob battery to be sure, and it's still on.

The battery in the car is getting older, but it still cranks the car over. Could ever so slightly low voltage be causing this?

I hate annoying idiot lights. Owners manual says take it to the dealership; no other explanation, which is BS. I'm not going there to get shafted out of hundreds of dollars unless I understand what's truly wrong.

If you still have the OEM battery in the car, replace it and see if that solves your problem. You live in AZ, so the heat is going to play havoc with the battery, along with the antenna under the console.

Battery is an AGM that was put in the car in early 2017, but AZ does kill batteries.....it is kept in the garage full time.

It could still be weak.

What does the heat have to do with the antenna?

The main antenna is under the console, it's in an area that gets warm from heat reflected up from the road and transmission. I put a piece of aluminum foil (shiny side down) on my 2012 and didn't have a problem with reception. I made sure it was under all the wires and such.

My 2015 stays inside the garage on a tender when I don't drive it. If you have a tender, try putting it on the car over night and see what the key light does. Electronics can be weird sometimes, even more so in cars. GL

I have two fobs, one works fine the other doesn`t work at all even with a new battery, do they need to be re-programmed occasionally

Not that I've ever seen. I have seen the contacts on the pads wear out or become clogged with debris (skin oil, dead skin, etc). It is possible that is what's happening on the one that doesn't work, it might be water damaged. The only way to know it there is water damage is to open it. There's a DIY on here that tells how to open the case.

Easiest check is to follow SouthArk's advice in his other thread. Try each fob in the fobgina and see if they both work there first. That will tell you whether it has lost programming or not.
