Look like he may be using Eagle's carbon hood as a point of reference?

Hotrodz got it right, my OEM hanging out on the right will be the receiver of these vents. John was just using my CF hood to help me visualize where the vents will go.

Lol, it is the same thing I did with my cf hood excepted I had to open the hood to see were the vents are placed!

So can i order yet?

cooltoy 11-08-2017 09:47 PM

Yes. PM me for the PayPal info.

Deqos 11-09-2017 07:51 AM

Its funny cause Cooltoy probably actually got Pms from some people lol

Chuck33079 11-09-2017 08:20 AM

Seriously, these are my Christmas present to myself. Let's get this ball rolling, dammit. :rofl2: Take my damn money.

DeliriousClam 11-09-2017 08:26 AM

Seriously will the side vents be able to be purchased separately from the center?

echoshotz 11-09-2017 10:09 AM

That seems to be the case with most of the other models they sell. I plan to get all three, but paint match the middle vent and see how that looks. I don't like the aesthetics of the middle one, but I'm sure its very functional, so painting it is going to be my attempt to blend it into the hood.

Hotrodz 11-09-2017 10:42 AM

Lol, they will be coming available soon. I'm sure you will be able to purchase them as a set or separately.

Jayhovah 11-09-2017 11:07 AM

I know the answer is probably no, but is there any chance of getting rain guards for these?
Also - how do rain guards work?

(If my question doesn't make sense, it's because I've never had a vented hood and don't know much about them).

I am also interested in rain guards, as last track season we drove through a couple of rainy trackdays.

I may end with them any way :icon17:

OptionZero 11-09-2017 11:37 AM

Rain guards are just a panel that attaches from underneath the hood to block the vents. Like sticking a drain plug in your sink so u can fill it up to wash the dishes, or wash a pet or whatever.

Some hoods (that are $$$) have molded channeling to divert water to safe areas.

I THINK Varis hoods do , but don't quote me on that.

OhioYJ 11-09-2017 11:58 AM

Anything that diverts water will also divert air. I'd be worried about this defeating the purpose of having the vents in the first place if you start blocking things too much.

You guys do realize things in the engine bay can get wet right? Some dielectric grease on electrical connectors will help prevent problems down the road, but most of the connectors are already water resistant.

If you're worried about looks, some they do make high temp clear coat to keep the aluminum from corroding?

Thanks for the explanation!

The bolded is what I would be after as my car is a fairweather DD (doesn't usually see rain...but #Florida so it happens)

The way you are describing it, though... the channels sound like something I could fab on my own with a little fiberglass as an add-on to the underside. I wonder if anyone has one of the said $$$ hoods that I could take a look at locally...

Not really worried about moisture, I just like the idea of not immediately having a filthy engine compartment every time I get caught in the rain.... point taken about defeating the purpose though. It will take some thought.

Eagle 11-09-2017 01:07 PM

Pix of the vents installed, John's bringing the hood back to me tonight, so I'll probably install it and take some more pix of it mounted on the car tonight or tomorrow.

Jon is ready to start getting names for the group buy...so lets get the list started. If you want in on the deal reply to the most recent post that has a buyer added, copy paste the names of the others who signed up before you and add your name to the end of the list.

Once we have the list finalized he'll need a couple weeks for production.

Group by list....AND GO!!!! :driving:

BTW what is the price for the group buy?

How about that price, though. I mean, I'm in but it would be nice to know.

Jayhovah 11-09-2017 01:33 PM

Damnit that looks great. I had never intended to buy these but I don't see any way out of it now.

I'd also like to know the price and the level of difficulty for DIY installation (will there be templates or any kind of instructions?). Can we see the underside of the hood with the vents installed?

edit: Would also like to know what the normal price will be.. I am in the middle of two moves and a home renovation so if its not a substantial discount I might just wait until I am ready to install.

Working on getting pricing info right now, hopefully John will have an answer for us when I see him later tonight. He may be waiting for a more concrete number from us so if we assume that these will be around $360 or less?
E85 Z4 (03-09) - BMW - SHOP BY VEHICLE
Who's in?
As you all know, the more people he gets...the more that number drops. I'm just quoting that number from his site, so it could be less to start...i highly doubt it would be more.

I'll ask him about the templates and instructions. It should be fresh in his head since he did it within the past two nights.

Eagle 11-09-2017 01:51 PM

OK, stuff's happening fast gents...if we get 10 orders, the price will be $279 + shipping. Asking about just the side vents right now.

Jayhovah 11-09-2017 02:16 PM

Ugh SO CHEAP.

Rain guards are supposed to be removable, otherwise . . . whats the point? Put them on when bumming around in bad whether, remove them when you need to go fast

Rain CHANNELs, however . . . obviously are not removable if they're molded

Yup! I am pretty sure I can fab some channels to dump water down the gap in front of the motor and the positioning of these vents leads me to believe they will still be effective this way.

I'm not a fan of adding additional maintenance items to the car, so anything I would have to take on and off is a non-starter if I can do it differently.
