I finally found the source which was the motor that opens the hatch. I have read ALL the threads here regarding hatch rattles and tried alll of the suggestions. No one has mentioned the part I am talking about so hopefully this helps someone who may be going through the frustrating process of tracking down their rattle with no success. It’s the most boring video on earth so feel free to skip to the last 5 minutes or so to see the part I am talking about and how to fix it.

I have an 09 with stock exhaust. Since day one, there has been this clicking noise/small rattling noise when I go over bumps. And I always thought it was coming from the passenger side of the trunk.

Today I went down the rabbit hole and quickly realized the source of annoyance wasn't going to be as obvious as I hoped to be. Then, I came across your video, and voila!!!!!

We have the exact same problem. I threw some goo silicone lubricant on the gears (I also needed to do the same for the little metal one), and the noise went away. I also removed the trunk weight.

Thank you for sharing your relentless journey in locating this noise This has annoyed me for years!!!!!
