Was there a correction to how much the sport wheels weigh? Also what is the weight of the 18 inch base wheels?
|
Sport package wheels: 19x9 Front: Rim 23.2lbs With tire/stock 52.2lbs
19x10 Rear: Rim 23.9lbs with tire/stock 56.8lbs |

I just need to find the weight for the 18's now... |
Hotchkis sways definitely weigh more than stock bars on the Z/G. No idea how much though
|
I might have missed it, but has anyone ever thought of removing the sound damping material and seeing how much weight that removes?
|
are there any light weight batteries that are just are reliable as the stock one?

As for the sound damping i was expecting more than that, but it's nice to know that there isn't too much weight there. |

Odyssey is the same as braille and much cheaper.

Odyssey Light Weight Battery PC680: 14lbs (6.35kg) | Reduction: 21lbs (9.53kg)

I was about to jump on a braille battery with trickle charge kit just in case, but same quality and better price is always a plus. |
Which one would be best for street use? I want it to be reliable
|
The PC680, I've seen people use it for years without issues...
Anyway, so I'm starting to get into taking weight off the car....just wondering what everyone is doing, has done or is thinking about doing to take weight off without making big sacrifices. I know I can get rid of my interior, but thats not realistic. I'm looking for things that we can all do with some slight modifications. Getting rid of things we dont need, inexpensive part swaps, etc. I'll throw in the first one: You can very easily remove 5lbs off the car by removing the hatch weight. All you have to do is pull down the plastic from the hatch and look around the middle, there is a big black square weight held in with like 6 screws. I guess its to make the hatch more weight-neutral when swinging it down and up. Completely pointless. Take it out...go faster. -5 |
I had thought about stripping the interior to remove the sound damping and then replacing the interior, but that's a lot of work for just 20-30 pounds.
|
My weight reduction goals for 2011:
-Battery -Seats -Rear hatch area |
I've gone a pretty unconventional route to reduce weight. While I've never taken the trouble to actually weigh in after replacing almost every panel with carbon fiber I can confidentially say the car feels much lighter. The Nissan tech in Smithtown said you can feel it once you let off the clutch. I'm shooting for a set of race sets in 2011 and a seibon hatch (last missing panel) on which I'll put a Kognition wing. Down the line I'm shooting for some ultra light wheels.
|
you know...the panels on the car are not that heavy, I'd be interested to see how much weight you actually shed. Can you post a couple pictures on here of what your car looks like now NYbladeZ?
|
I know they aren't that heavy but upon removing the and carrying them around, the carbon fiber pieces were always lighter. Add to it that I was fully sponsored for a lot of the pieces I ended up with a one of a kind car. I will say this, if I knew I'd take it this route I wouldn't have gone red, and although I kinda like the red rear quarters and roof when its all said and done, I'll probably get flat black overlays when its all said and done. I'll post pics soon.

Just a few other things, I've installed a braille battery which is a very noticable difference! I've also removed everything in the rear, spare, jack and everything else back there. Warning, if you do remove everything you will get light in the rear and it will be more figgity. Thankfully the wife gave me the green light to get M. Bonnani's Kognition Wing that was for sale on here. That should create more than enough downforce, and hopefully coilovers to follow.
Other than carbon shell seats and amt wheels I can't think of any other weight savings short of stripping the interior and hammering out the sound deafening. |
Which Braille battery did you install? Has it been fine for your daily driven use?
|
i have the same question about the battery..... is it ok if the Z only gets driven 2 times a week?
|
I'm picking up the odyssey...same thing as the braille...I think someone even told em they are made by the same company, but the odyssey tends to go into bikes and watercraft. If I'm not mistaken, the odyssey is also a good amount cheaper.
Yes, you would be OK if it gets driven twice a week. I know people who have left their cars in storage over winter and had no problems with them. |
I drive my Z everyday, how long should this battery last me?
|

No idea, I have checked the 350 forum and some guys ran them for a couple years with no problems while others replaced them after 13 months. |
A couple of years is fine, I just don't want to have it die out when I have to go to work or something, I don't know if it matters but it should still be fine with the aftermarket nav running off it right?
|
I have the 15 lb braile in mine and i have to charge it every 4 days or my car will not start. The car is in the garage now and it takes a quick 15 min 2 amp triclle charge.
If i drive it every 3rd day there is now problems, but once the temp started to drop 30's to mid 20's it starts but you can feel the battery is a little low on cranking power. If i disconect the Battery from the car it hold the charge for a long time. I always leave the hood popped open on the car if im not going to drive it for a while in the garage. Z |
I think our ECU pulls a trickle - I have a problem with battery drain as well... a shut-off switch is in order
|
ive ran a few brailles 15lbs in the past..id highly recommend a battery tender if its not daily driven...they would usually last me around 18months..

I think I'll take the plunge maybe next week and let everyone know how it goes.
Anyone got other mods to reduce weight? |

After my experience with the Braille battery I'll sum it up like this....if your car is a daily driver and you live in areas where the temperature will drop below 40 degrees regularly, don't get it. If you're like me and the Z is not a daily driver, get it.

FYI -
Removed ebrake and related handle, cables and assemblies for savings of 8-9 pounds There are brackets supporting the front fascia that are over-built, removed about 5 pounds of brackets Was previously using aftermarket dual oil coolers and now going down to one but adding shrouding to increase effectiveness - will be net weight savings of 5 pounds Will be replacing headlights with covers for any day time events for net weight savings of 10 pounds Have another 80-100 pounds we are targeting and will report back here later |
