If your insurance doesn't already cover this 100%, you should consider different insurance

I haven't used any windshield repair kits but I know several people that have done so with good results.
Safelite, et al, will do a good job and, as mentioned by others, your insurance should cover most, if not all, of the cost.

I've used them with a good deal of success. If chip is fresh. If it's old then it likely will be more noticeable. What I do is when pushing fluid in I use a lighter and heat up the chip from inside the car. Heat the good side of the glass. I typically have insurance handle but have repaired many beater cars with wal mart kit and even when I had safe lute fix one in my work parking lot they did the same lighter trick I mentioned.

Agreed. I had a small nick in my windshield and my insurance covered the repair at no cost. Even sent someone (Safelite probably) to my office to take care of it in the parking lot. I think my insurance company saw it as preventive maintenance - cheaper to fix before it became a big issue and they had to pay for a new windshield. I can't even tell where the nick is after they fixed it.

Thanks for the replies....I know my insurance would take care of it but my wife just had to have hers fixed about 2 weeks ago and didn't want it to look strange that we both had to have our windshields fixed within a couple of weeks. I thought if one of the DIY kits would work (without making it look worst) I would try it. The nick is really small, almost like the rock didn't hit it square and just skipped off.
I'll probably just call the insurance
