Engine?

Hey guys, I just bought a 14 370z sport touring and I am worried about how reliable this engine and car components are. Anyone have problems? Track day then problems?

Heat issues, get an oil cooler. Once you have that you're good for a few track days.

No real engine issues to speak of. There's the odd manufacturer defect every now and again but very rare. Drive train is solid.

Should be fine as long as you maintain the car. Members on here with over 100k miles still going strong.

It's a Nissan, in stock form, I'd argue that it is no more or less reliable than any of the other current Japanese offerings. The VQ has been around forever, hopefully they have made refinements to the platform over the years. The VVEL heads are new, but aside from lack of good tuners, they seem to be pretty stout.

Just don't alter the 7500 redline with a tune. The stock oil pump does not like 8000+ and will fail, leading to a blown motor. Of course, there is always the Nismo pump upgrade, which can handle more revs.

Going by what I've seen on this site and other Nissan-related sites, the engine is as reliable as any other engine when used as a DD. It does tend to run hot so, if you intend to drive hard, an oil cooler might be indicated.

If you plan on tracking the car, you'll need all the extra cooling you can get and will probably want to upgrade the brakes. You might get better answers in the Track / Autocross / Drifting / Dragstrip - Nissan 370Z Forum section.

Late edit: Some engines will consume enough oil that they have to be replaced. But these seem to be fairly few and far between and my guess is that more than one of them was due to abuse. Check your level often (but you should be doing that anyway). My engine uses almost no oil at all; never more than a few millimeters on the stick between changes.

At least with a 2014 it comes with an oil cooler. Maybe not good for track days but they do help in DD life. These cars are very good and the engines are very reliable. You'll have no issues unless you bring them upon yourself through modifications.

My AC works amazingly well.

Car will hold up just fine. My only fear is the dreaded CSC which can go out at 5k miles, 80k, or not at all.

Why buy a vehicle where reliability is a concern?

I've had several Nissans with a VQ engine in it and have had no issues.

There was an article last year naming an Z extremely reliable. No car is perfect but I would argue that it can be beat on pretty hard, harder than many sports cars twice its cost.

Doesn't the 2014 sport touring come stock with an oil cooler now? If not, get one if you plan on beating on it on hot and humid Mississippi days.

It will be interesting to see when my CSC fails. My first 370 had no issues when I traded it at 34K. This new one is at 22K. That being said, I did just drop the trans without replacing the CSC, so I may have decreased its life quite a bit.
