The only way what you want to do will cause a warranty claim to be denied is if the part/install led to other damage.

It's against the law for them to VOID your warranty. As Chuck stated they can deny a specific claim based on mod but not VOID, even then the burden of proof is on them to prove your mod cause the failure.
