Should I replace my clutch with throw bearing?

Hey guys here is my dilemma. I have a 2011 Base Model with Sports package. I was having some trouble with my clutch and after taking it to the dealer 3 times they were finally able to "reproduce" the problem and tracked it down to a bad throw bearing. They are replacing it under warranty but I am trying to decide if I should just have them replace the clutch while they are in there since I should save some money in labor. The car only has ~25,000 miles but this was my first manual car that I've owned so I may have accelerated the clutch wear slightly but I don't think it was to bad. They want to charge me $928 to put a new clutch in. Does that seem high to you and do you think I should do it or not?

Is that price for an OEM clutch?

Depending on your goals with your car, you have many aftermarket options that would be suitable from mild street, all the way to straight race car. At that price, if you could get them to be okay with an aftermarket clutch/flywheel setup, it may be a good time.

Also, it's highly recommended by many members, including myself, to replace the coencentric slave cylinder (CSC) with a heavy duty aftermarket version. They tend to fail quite a bit.

If you have $, I'd replace your clutch + flywheel + CSC to aftermarket ones all at the same time. The transmission will be taken apart anyways, why not save yourself some labor?

The plastic CSC goes in our cars pretty quickly due to *ahem* faulty design and the stock flywheel weighs a ton. Replacing clutch to higher HP rating is just a bonus.

Yes that is an OEM clutch. Is there any specific aftermarket slave cylinder you recommend? I'm not going for a race car it is my DD 75% of the year but I'm open to getting a better clutch. Totally open to suggestions

They'll be able to work something out for you.

Again, it is HIGHLY recommended to replace your stock OEM plastic POS slave cylinder to heavy duty slave cylinder.

Thanks for the quick responses everyone. I will give zspeed a call tomorrow, they are located in Dayton which is only about an hour from me so I may even be able to drive up there to pick it up. The dealer said they need to know what I'm doing by Monday so they know what all they need to order.

Again, I really appreciate the help and please feel free to offer up any more suggestions or input!

OEM clutch installed for $928 -- nah. Ask how much of it is labor, how many hours, and how much is the part. They are charging you too much.

Ended up just getting a HD CSC and new master cylinder from Joe at zpeedperformance. He was a ton of help, definitely will be going to him again when I purchase. Thanks for all the help again.

be sure the dealership will even put on an aftermarket part. ive known some that wont touch anything that isnt OEM.

My local dealer in Nashua put in the Zspeed CSC and liked it a lot. Also replaced Master cylinder. Let's see if #3 works.

My dealership gladly put the HD CSC. and praised its high quality. Especially the quality difference between steel braided lines on the HD CSC vs. rubber stock line. They even took pictures during their installation.

They would not put in the after market CSC. They said they would have to charge me $800 in labor if they did even though they are already replacing the OEM CSC as part of the service.
