Cars nowadays are very good at diagnosing themselves. Get an OBD scanner and see what DTC(s) are showing up. You can find scanners for as little as $30 or so. I use my ScanGauge to read/clear DTCs. Most auto parts stores will read the DTCs, or loan/rent you a scanner, for little or nothing.

Yeah, I've always been wary of the "imediately clear any code that pops up without seeing what it is" advice that gets thrown around.
