Maybe I'm and old guy that's driven sticks since I was 16, but the cars back then didn't even have a hundred hp. Try driving one of those without rolling back on a steep incline. You'll then realize how easy a 370 is to start up an incline, even a steep one. Even using the handbrake with these old cars was no guarantee of rolling back.
I have lived on a lower part of a mountain for the past 20 years, so maybe I'm used to it. But in all honesty, the first week of ownership of the Z, I thought it had hill assist as the car never rolled back an inch. The torque that the Z has, will hold the car in it's place up an incline, if you release the clutch to the beginning part of it's catch point and then release the foot brake.
For you new guys to sticks, release the clutch till you see the rpm's on your tach decline a bit, then release your foot brake and then depress gas smoothly. You will not roll backwards. Otherwise, nothing wrong with using the handbrake.
