Red Line oil change

I just changed my oil using Red Line 5w-30 synthetic. It definitely gets rid of the valve train ticking noise like others have noticed. The engine sounds a lot smoother

Thumbs up Red Line oil change

I just changed my oil using Red Line 5w-30 synthetic. It definitely gets rid of the valve train ticking noise like others have noticed. The engine sounds a lot smoother now and the car just feels better (probably just in my head thanks to the new sound). Good stuff.

I'm very pleased with the result. I was really surprised at how the ticking noise just completely went away. I can't believe the oil could make such a big difference. I think I need to replace the transmission fluid next and see if that does anything.

I did have a minor hiccup, though.

When I went to screw the oil cap back on I dropped it down into the engine bay. I had to jack the car up on the left side, pull the left front wheel and part of the bottom tray and reach around in there and find it. Cut my left arm up pretty good but I find the damn thing after about an hour! I'm going to tether it to the strut bar because I am clumsy with stuff like this and I'm sure I'll do it again.

AK, you already answered my question earlier. Every ~7.5K for your oil change!

I don't know if this is just a coincidence or if this is due to the oil change, but I've noticed my oil temps are a little bit cooler. Since my oil change last Thursday night I've driven over 800 miles and have not once had the oil temp reach above 220. The hottest I've seen it so far is about 215-218.

I drove 300 mostly highway miles on Saturday morning through a mix of rolling hills and a mountain pass and the oil temp seemed to settle in right at 215. I went on a spirited mountain drive later in the day and saw only a tick higher.

I seem to remember my temps averaging a little bit over 220 on a sustained highway trip... not sure if this is a result of the oil change or other factors.

Heard that once you used a certain brand of oil, you should stick with it and not change to another brand.

Is this true?

No, but if youre doing a UOA you should use the same oil a couple times to keep things to max consistency.

Lab tests are apparently pretty good. All I know is that it completely solved that valve train ticking so I'm satisfied.

I read quite a bit about Red Line oil on BITOG. One member, Saaber1, has torn down numerous engines that have used Red Line oil their whole life. He claims that they are in like brand new condition.

Also, Red Line gets a lot of good rep on BITOG.

You will pay more, but its always worth it in my mind if you can run it with confidence.
