My guess is that you ran over a limb, chunk of truck tire, or similar. Going by the FSM, the hub/bearing looks similar to the setup on a mid-'90s Chevy FWD (minus the drive shaft) that a friend and I recently replaced. The job was amazingly easy once we got the right Torx wrench. If you have the proper tools, you can probably DIY.
