can't wait to see what it does at VIR next month!

note: that thing needs some more stickers!! it will help with my AF :)

travisjb 01-25-2010 10:05 PM

outstanding news on the performance - congrats... looking forward to more details - pics/vid of the event, thoughts on what still needs to be worked etc... also, does the results today change any plans, eg can this car be successful without FI?

FuszNissan 01-25-2010 10:24 PM

Congrats on the accomplishment!

B1nks 01-26-2010 05:12 AM

Amazing time FP ! I still would like more info as to if these are the wheels you will be sticking with and are they the 12" rears you were looking to get or 19x10 19x11 ?

KEVTEX 01-26-2010 08:55 AM

Congratulations on building a top performer.
What is the offset on your 18x12 rear wheels?
Are those rear tires 335-30's in the pictures?

The wheels are the usual RE30 fitment that we have been recommending for the 370z. They are 19x10 +30/19x11 +25. (+20 available in machine black and hi metal bronze)

The custom wheels have yet to arrive.

Hi Travis, thanks man! :) We are considering some different options right now, with respect to forced induction vs. NA build. We are testing the car at CMP, and Road Atlanta first, before making the decision. We need to see how the 370Z does on higher speed tracks, and more variety of corners.

Here is some incar from my first outing on Sunday morning. Sorry for the sub-optimal placement of the cam. I then mounted the cam on the roof, and it proceeded to blow off at 145mph on the front straight....ops. :ugh2: YouTube - Forged Performance Nissan 370Z Intial Test Roebling Road .wmv

Great Times!! Did you guys run the GT-R? If so did the Z beat its lap time?

HKYStormFront 01-26-2010 03:12 PM

i believe it was 1:17 in the GTR, 1:19 in the Z... with a few bolt ons and a tune that # could be closer or even better than the GTR, weight makes a huge difference on track :)

I ran a 1:17 in the GT-R. Keep in mind the Z is still NA, and makes probably less than 275whp on our dyno. Still a stock engine and no tuning. We were not expecting to beat our GT-R, but we were pleasantly surprised with how close we got.

travisjb 01-26-2010 05:50 PM

that's jaw dropping how close the margin is... I'm psyched about your result... stuck behind a firewall, will watch the vid tonight

any comments on handling and what you liked v not? which diff are you running again?

tbonesteak 01-26-2010 09:42 PM

Epic vid. Just out of curiosity. Were those porsches not racing? i don't get how you can zoom past them as if they're standing still.

Thats amazing.. coming from AWD I was unsure of how I would like RWD on the track, I didnt think I could be competitive. It Looks like with a few more ponys the Z will be your fastest track car in the stable!! Cant wait to see the results on the bigger tracks coming up and In the time attack season!:tiphat:

The 370z was absolutely fabulous, even though we have just barely scratched the surface. In many ways, it handles very similar to the GT-R, except about 600lbs lighter, and 250whp less. As you can tell in the video, you just have to keep the revs way way up to keep the car moving along. :) It took me a couple laps to realize there is no midrange and no turbos....LOL. But running the car repeatedly to 7500rpm was music to my ears. The car feels incredibly light on turn in, and exhibits zero body roll. It's extremely tossable, and easy to point the nose. There is a trace of oversteer on corner exit but nothing out of the ordinary. This is usually how we like our cars setup. The brakes are out of this world. I can honestly tell you these Trophy Series Race brakes from Stop Tech are the best I have ever used. Just breathing on the brakes is enough to snap your neck forward. It will completely overpower the ABS system and cause a slight hint of lock-up if you aren't ready for it. There is no pad knockback at all, with the full floating rotors and superb consistency and confidence under braking.

Roebling is handling track, rather than an HP track, so the times between a GT-R and 370Z well prepped should be fairly close. On something like VIR or Road Atlanta which are much higher speed tracks, I would expect a much greater delta between lap times.

We are running the Carbonetic 1.5 way LSD in the rear. I really love this diff...I would have hated this car had we retained the stock LSD for the test.

With respect to the question about the Porsches, they were definitely running at full tilt. Keep in mind, this was the Red Instructors group, so passing was permitted anywhere with a point. Usually once they saw me filling their mirrors, they moved over to let me pass by. This way, we avoid a drag race to the next corner. All good. :driving:

Happy to answer any more questions you all have.

NewlyIMPORTed 01-26-2010 11:28 PM

What exhaust are you guys running?

Excellent stuff man! I'm going to have to call you about that diff once I start participating in some events this spring! If you dont mind could you give us a little insight into the alignment setup?

travisjb 01-26-2010 11:58 PM

Just watched the vid... dominant car! must have been fun!

I need Decker to send me the rear view mirror you guys are using... bar mount, right?

Love the Carbonetic too - would recommend it to anyone

Which pads were you using? did i miss that in your post??

Possible to get some detailed shots of the engine bay?

schrute 01-27-2010 12:49 AM

That vid was a lot of fun to watch. Thanks for sharing.:tiphat:

moar pics and vids pleaseeeee!!!!

vipor 01-27-2010 11:05 AM

Awesome job Sharif! The video is sweet.

Did you mistakenly get invited to a Porsche race or something? lol. You burned them all though, gj! :driving:

travisjb 01-27-2010 11:17 AM

Porsche Club of America (PCA) events are fairly open... once you're in, you're in even if you switch to another marquee. and if you don't have a porsche, just need to be invited by a member... it's a great group in AZ, focus is on having fun and learning to drive, less emphasis on running at 99% and getting your best time... a great group to learn with for sure

We don't make it out there very often. We were out there last year for the Super Lap Battle and Redline Time Attack at Fontana.

Sure can. We run about 1/8th inch toe-in rear, and 3/16th inch toe-out up front. Camber up front is -3.5 and rear camber is -2.3

Actually, glass is coming out on Wed, and then will be sent off for lexan.

This would be great if you guys can pull this off...:happydance:

But understandable if you can't. :(

We have the lexan sitting here, but we have elected to campaign the car in a class that requires factory glass, and the full dash/center console..hence the cup holders...LOL.

Doubt this thing will see the 1/4 mile anytime soon.

It will be there, but that's only about 1/8th mile at best, and untimed. aeeghemmm.....remember that isn't a drag strip event, it's a controlled acceleration and braking test. :)

bullitt5897 01-28-2010 03:33 PM

I wanna see XKR's G do a run in the Accel and brake test... 1000rwhp WAT!!!! lol

-370Z- 01-31-2010 02:44 PM

Congratulatins! It's definately in order. The car looks absolutely beastly and I love the attention to detail.

What size tires are on the re30?

Toyo R888's 295/30/19 front and 305/30/19 rear. We are waiting on our 18 inch wheels to arrive a little later in the season. Then we will run 295/315 combo. You can tell in the vid, it's still a little loose. :)

theDreamer 01-31-2010 08:26 PM

Sharif, did they go ahead and make those 18x12 wheels for you?

Going to be 18X11.5 More details will be posted in a brand new thread. Just waiting on a few things. :)

travisjb 01-31-2010 08:38 PM

Hey Sharif, did you guys hook up a traqmate to this car? Wondering if you figured out how to connect the RPM wire... it wants an analog signal and I'm at a loss for where to find one of those!

We threw the TM in about 10 mins before we left for the track, so we didn't pull the tach signal yet. It's pretty easy though. Simply tap the #1 Ignition wire from the ECU. I am at home, but I am sure someone has a PIN out they can post up, as I don't remember the pin location off the top of my head.

travisjb 01-31-2010 09:00 PM

will try that and report back here later, thanks

Brazilbro 02-01-2010 11:35 PM

Sharif a little of topic, but have you done any transmission mods to the GTR?

Just upgraded fluids and coolers. We are testing some different clutch packs and seals as well, but so far OEM seems to be holding up splendidly even under fulll race use.
