Forged Performance: Project 370Z Race Car Build!!
Forged Performance is pleased to announce or latest motorsports project car: A brand new Nissan 370Z with just a touch over 100 miles on the odometer. We are looking forward to developing the Forged Performance 370Z to compete in the Unlimited RWD Class of Redline Time Attack, and Regional NASA Pro Racing, and Time Trials.
As we've done with our 350Z, and current GT-R program, motorsports development is the ultimate proving ground. Much of what we learn, is immediately transferrable to our street based project cars as well and one of the reasons that we have a long history or reliability and consistency with our daily driver builds. So hang on, and we'll be updating the thread as the build continues....it's going to get really interesting. By the way, everything OEM removed from the car is for sale...just ask. :) Tomorrow, the car goes on the dyno for a quick baseline, and then the strip down continues, along with a preliminary scaling. We are sitting right now at just over 3300lbs with a full tank of fuel. We'll have the SCCA/NASA approved cage, and much of the safety gear in by end of next week. :) I took a few pictures today to get us started, and well update as we go. :happydance: http://onfinite.com/libraries/1506795/a5e.jpg http://onfinite.com/libraries/1506796/907.jpg http://onfinite.com/libraries/1506797/70f.jpg http://onfinite.com/libraries/1506798/80a.jpg http://onfinite.com/libraries/1506799/720.jpg http://onfinite.com/libraries/1506800/e90.jpg http://onfinite.com/libraries/1506801/4b1.jpg |

Interested? The glass is for sale too...it's all coming out. :) |
I'm interested in some of the OEM interior panels. How would I go about obtaining them from you guys? Let me know!
|
how much for the wheels?
|
for unlimited class you're going to need some BoOooOst!!.. whatcha got up your sleaves?
|
I would suggest making a list of stock parts for sale to make it more manageable to keep track. I think you would be successful in offering anything you end up taking off your z. I may be interested in some of the trunk trimmings.

Wow, congrats!! This is going to be a great project to follow! Really looking forward to watching this progress. Requests:
With you or your customer running unlimited, me in street or modified, and mike at ddm in stock or street, we risk missing each other in future competition... would like to get all three on the track at once somewhere down the road ! |
Quick question... what are you doing for seats? full halo? building custom seat rails/brackets, or hoping to source from somewhere? thanks
|
how'd you take off the knob without damage?

Well, we are off to a great start. Turns out we have a nice little ringer on our hands. The other 370's and G37's I have done all baselined around 250whp. Ours turned the rollers to 276whp. :) For those of you not familiar with our Dyno Dynamics Dyno, it tends to read fairly low, compared to the Dyno Jet or Dyno Pak machines.

Nice Sharif! I'm psyched to see how this build comes along! :)
|
Why did you guys stop short of redline on the dyno? Nice results though!

Alright, we have updates! Our first stage of this project was to remove the basic interior out of the car. This included carpet, seats, pillar covers, etc etc. We were quite pleased with the amount of weight we were able to remove from the car with very little effort. We were able to remove over 300 pounds of just interior pieces. Our current weight is 3009 which is down from 3323, a 314 pound difference!
We are about to start moving forward with our second stage of this project which will include more in depth weight reduction. This is where it starts getting a little bit harder to get significant weight off. We will be removing sound deadening, AC, door crash beams, etc. Keep in mind the car is still bone stock, so we havn't even installed new exhaust, suspension, and other aftermarket parts which will drop a nice bit of weight out of the car. Stay tuned to our progress! Here are a few more pictures ;) http://i489.photobucket.com/albums/r...ownstg1002.jpg Lots of sound deadening to remove :) http://i489.photobucket.com/albums/r...ownstg1003.jpg Down to 3009 pounds (314 pounds less than stock) http://i489.photobucket.com/albums/r...ownstg1001.jpg |
Excellent thread, subscribing for all the data, and to drool over things I can't do to my street car but wish I could :)

Maybe in a few years though :) |
if i did the math right, you guys are now at 57.6% weight to front... hopefully you find some ways to shift more weight towards the rear and continue to lighten the front
|
^^ Just curious - how did you arrive at that figure?
** Edit ** Just noticed the corner weights in the pictures. Duh. |
In for more.
