I brought it to Nissan today and they told me the same thing. The SES light needs to be on so they can pull the code and do the work under warranty. Looks like I have to wait until the light comes on again.

Update: Brought it to the dealer
Code is still P0456
they said gas cap is good no leaks
culprit was a broken evap control valve
they said since its a new car they needed to call nissan first to report the problem and then do a smoke test to make sure there are no leaks or any other ones

unfortunately nissan is close on weekeds(dealer said)
so i have to bring it back on monday
tech said car is drivabale its just that valve is throwing the SES

will keep you guys updated

btw i know someone here had a similar problem cant remeber who
also the advisor said im the 2nd Z that came there with thise problem
so for everyone just keep it in mind
Blue Z likes this.

tru_Asiatik,

It was me.

If the "Service Engine Soon" light is still on while driving after checking the gas cap is tight, do take your car to the dealer for them to check.
This happened with my car after only 800 miles. They traced the problem back to some leaky seal near the gas tank. They had to order the part and when they replaced it, turned out some cannister next to it was faulty as well. Again they said that part needed to be ordered, that it'll take 3,4 days.
I told them that its a waste of my time to keep coming back. So one of the Service guy suggested swapping the faulty part with one of the unsold 370Z on the lot.
No problem with the light reappearing since.

Yeah, add me to the list. My SES light came on yesterday at just about 2000 miles. I'll head to the dealer tomorrow and see what they say.

Can any of the others that have had this problem for some time provide an update as to whether their problems have been resolved without further issues?

Nissan cleared my light this week, chastised me for not putting the gas cap on tightly enough and sent me on my way. I cranked the gas cap on really tightly after filling up2 days ago. yet, my SES light is back on! Damn

let the dealer know its an evap leak most likely a bad selenoid
my dealer thought it was the gas cap at first but after 4 trips back n forth to the dealer they decided to do a smoke test and thats what they found

I should have never posted that mine had been gone for so long. Mine came back 2 days ago. I am going to the dealership for something else that broke on the Z anyways so I will see what they can do.
