Default 3rd gear engagement

Does 3rd gear feel increasingly notchy to anyone? I'm not sure if I'm being paranoid about the transmission, but it feels like the gears do a slight grind on the way into 3rd from 2nd.

It actually feels like I slightly whiffed the shift and still had the clutch halfway out before going into the new gear, but I've been paying attention now, and that's not it.

Hopefully it's just the way things are. I don't really mind it, so long as something isn't wrong.

It doesn't seem notchy at all to me. Has it always felt notchy to you? Or is this a new feeling?

It's fine here. 2nd gear is notchy as usual as with my 350Z. They all clunk.

Well it's definitely not smooth as a baby's butt every time, but I can't tell if it's getting worse. I've noticed it for awhile, but I just haven't been sure whether it's the shift or not.

Oh well - I'll see if it gets worse... thanks all.

Cool, please keep us updated. IMO, 2nd and 6th are the only gears that are kinda notchy.

Mine does exactly what you've described on the 1-2 shift. The 2-3 shift is just fine, though.

So I'm not the only one thinking 2nd and 6th.
Was wondering if I should bring this up when I take it in for it's 1st service. This isn't my first manual but is my first Z, so is this something we just live with?

Upshift into second seems to feel clunky at times. On occasion, shifting into third has the same feel to it.

So, I take it this is a commonality among the 370's? Or is there a potential problem?

I only have problems going from 1st to 2nd. I thought it was only my car doing that. I guess most 370zs are like that?

2nd feels notchy a lot and sometimes 3rd does as well. It's a lot worse if the transmission hasn't reached full operating temperature.

Yeah it's funny - I actually like notchy transmissions like the S2000. It may just be a question of getting used to it.

I was paying attention on the way in to work today, and it felt like the syncros were spinning up, then the gear "clicked" or notched in. I dunno. It only bugs me because that feeling on another car would be a "bad" thing.

Have you given any consideration to switching your MT fluid to a synthetic, like Redline? That's what I did.

Honestly guys going into rear "Clunk" i believe is normal it's done it in all my cars... my celica and honda actually every celica i've driven has done it.

3rd gear sounds like ******* hondas 3rd gear synchros problem but ours pops out or grinds and is notchy... meh
