I am just going to leave the factory knob on the shifter if I can and put my new shift knob on the new short shifter. Would hope I could avoid the fun part of removing the stock shift knob.

I think you need to remove the knob to be able to remove the rubber boot and leather cover piece.

Fun, well if that is the case I might remove the entire thing so I can get a better grip with everything. Or I could just buy another leather cover. :P

A different knob that mounts lower on the shaft will effectively shorten the throw as well. A Redline Goods leather Boot (for a 350) worked just great and is a nice upgrade over the cheezy plastic for only $60.. Knob here is a Miata pearl finished "Team Voodoo"...Same thread (10 x 1.25) as the Z..

Default Weighted Shift knob

I bought a TWM weighted shift knob from Canada, it's made a huge difference in shifting quality. This thing weighs 1.32 pounds! and is a bit shorter then the stock set up. I was running the Nismo one previously, which IMO is way too light, I use to mis-shift 1st to 2nd b/c of the effort it took to move it. Now I have no problems. I will upgrade to a short throw shifter later on, but I'm pretty satisfied for now. This would be a great edition to a short throw shifter. The model I got was the Desert Eagle & the color Is gun blue finish, which is actually more of a satin black.

I'm interested in one of these weighted shift knobs.
