370z short shifter

From those who have the car so far, do you think the Z would benefit, hurt, or is fine as it? What are your thoughts on the topic, worth the upgrade?

Thanks.

i think that it would be great =D

I think it's worth it. The throws on the stock shifter are too long and it feels rubbery. Just looks like install will be a PITA.

Changing out the shift knob did alot for "shift feel", it made it acceptable to me. I didn't like the stock feel it was too clumsy.

I bought the kit and a knob, but I can't bring myself to put it in yet because of the potential transmission problems.

I'm not usually a wuss about warranty stuff, but when I hear about people needing 3-5 transmission replacements on a car, that gets me nervous enough to care about the warranty. I'm getting used to the stock shifting; although I'd love shorter, less rubbery throws, I'm not sure if it's worth the possibility of a $2K transmission cost.

If I have any issues I would just slap the original back in, if you do not destroy it trying to remove it I guess.

Absolutely worth every penny over that stock rubbery one.

Well I went ahead and ordered it today from Stillen. With luck I'll be installing it next weekend.

I have ordered mine also and I got tracking info saying it will arrive this Wednesday, may not install it until the weekend or the weekend after since I also am waiting on a new shift knob.

I just hope I can get the factory shift knob off without issue. Looks like it's a PITA.

theDreamer 05-30-2009 10:20 PM

I am just going to leave the factory knob on the shifter if I can and put my new shift knob on the new short shifter. Would hope I could avoid the fun part of removing the stock shift knob.

I think you need to remove the knob to be able to remove the rubber boot and leather cover piece.

Fun, well if that is the case I might remove the entire thing so I can get a better grip with everything. Or I could just buy another leather cover. :P

A different knob that mounts lower on the shaft will effectively shorten the throw as well. A Redline Goods leather Boot (for a 350) worked just great and is a nice upgrade over the cheezy plastic for only $60.. Knob here is a Miata pearl finished "Team Voodoo"...Same thread (10 x 1.25) as the Z..
