Sux OP.. but it's not the first 3.7l engine to go boom in Canada.
Sounds like you have a good rapport with the Service Manager, which is Key in this situation. You should have no problems with warranty, because the Dealership will bill Nissan Canada, full-pop for labor to replace the motor.
-I went through 2 Rev-up, motors with warranty replacement.. that's how I know..

If you can take a positive from this situation.. If you have plans to go FI, you can ask them to install a new clutch+flywheel for you, at no charge.. since the motor is already out, they won't care!
-Again, I know this through experience.

GL!

I'm sorry man, but at least they said "oil consumption." That's really good news. Sounds like they'll take care of ya.

How does Nissan determine what is over excessive oil consumption?

I don't remember the exact test, but they check it at 500-1000 mile intervals or similar after they do an oil change, and if it uses over 1-2 quarts it is considered excessive. Their definition of excessive is a lot more than yours probably would be. I just remember that, and that they had to do the testing/checks over a period of time/miles. That is usually followed up with a compression test, and possibly engine replacement....

I can agree with that. My 350 did about half a quart every 2500 miles. I believe my 370 is at about 1/4 a quart every 2000. But those are some hard miles. I don't baby this puppy.

Hope this works out for you. Sounds like the dealer is helping you and not fighting it. I'm glad to hear that.

I have doubts that the crank pulley mod would cause this, but remember you're messing with how the engine was designed. The new pulley could (I mean it's possible, not absolute!) cause internal engine vibrations that might lead to cracking of critical components. Harmonics do play a role in engine longevity.

Best of luck to you!

Thats the problem i rarely checked the oil level! you dont expect a brand new car to suck it like a 20 dolla hooker. Anyway ive learned my lesson!!! basically we gotta check the oil level every month cuz they took out the damn oil pressure gauge. That gauge was my best friend in my 350z.
