The good news is that I found another spring after I realized the error that definitely does work. P/N 72577 at Century Spring is the winner 72577 - COMPRESSION SPRING - Part Characteristics | Century Spring Corp. The spring rate is roughly 20% of the stock spring and it feels very similar to running without the spring installed. The bad news is that you need to order 4 of them to meet their minimum order quantity. Here are some pics of the Century spring ![]() Stock is on the left, Century on the right ![]() Installed Last edited by bluenoser; 08-12-2011 at 02:50 PM. |

Just installed the Century Spring and this is without a doubt, the best thing I have done to the car thus far! The clutch now reminds me a lot of the clutch I had in my 66 327 Corvette and 66 GT-350, with maybe a little less effort. I had NEVER stalled a manual transmission car until I got the Z. Now, I will not stall it again...
![]() The increase in pedal effort is negligible, but the disengagement of the clutch is sooo much easier and smoother now. Good trade off IMO. On another note, I purchased 4 springs, so I may have 2 (or 3) that I will send to someone who needs one for $15+shipping. Shoot me a PM [QUOTE=bluenoser;1257678]Ok there's good news and bad news. The Fastenal spring I mentioned earlier doesn't work. The inside diameter of the spring doesn't fit correctly over the assembly. I ordered the day after I measured it and I guess I wasn't paying close enough attention when I placed the order. The good news is that I found another spring after I realized the error that definitely does work. Are u sure that the fastenal spring doesn't work? Looking at the sizes and spec looks like it should be a go!
Anyway I'll be trying one of the ones from fastenal Monday when it gets here!

The ID of the Fastenal spring is about 0.76". When you pull the assembly apart you can see the spring fits around a collar on the aluminum piece near the lower pin and around a sheet metal hat thing on the other end. The diameters of both the "hat" and the "collar" are around 0.83" so the spring should have a minimum ID of 0.84" to guarantee a good fit. You might be able to force the Fastenal spring to fit but probably not without tweaking it somehow. Sorry if my earlier post caused you to buy a useless spring, I jumped the gun a bit on that one...

No worries it's np! My buddy who works there hooks it up with huge discounts!
These are the specs he gave me though for the #71 spring OD - 1" Wire size -.12" Length - 2.5" lbs capacity - 47lbs Looks like it should work the ID would still be left at .88" but we will see if it fits on Monday!

Honestly, the century spring one because it's almost like there's no spring except there's no play at the top of the pedal. That's what I originally wanted but esfourteen's spring is still waaaay better than OEM feel.

Esfourteen. Any word on those last 2 springs you got? I'll be home in a few weeks so I would like all modifications to my car to be finished so I can enjoy her while I am home before going back out.
