Having a 335i and now a 370Z I would say that the two are nearly identical in the force required to operate the clutch. The 1-2 shift in the 335i is way smoother that the Z. However, as I get used to the Z's transmission it is getting better. Neither one would bother me in traffic.

A Z salesman drove my 335i and he was impressed with the overall smoothness of the transmission. Again, I am not referring to the required force to operate the clutch.

Last thought. If you get the sport package the rev match is fun to play with.
